Overview
LCG is seeking a Senior UI/UX Designer Developer to support an NIH client in crafting intuitive, user centered digital experiences for AI powered applications. The role combines modern UI/UX design and front end development with emerging Generative AI technologies, including Azure OpenAI, Large Language Models, and intelligent automation tools. The developer will design and implement user interfaces for AI applications such as chatbots, knowledge retrieval tools, and workflow automation platforms, ensuring a seamless and efficient user experience. You will collaborate with product owners, developers, and stakeholders to translate complex AI capabilities into intuitive, accessible interfaces. The position involves building modern front end applications using React or similar frameworks, designing user journeys, and integrating AI powered backend services into responsive UI experiences. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to AI modernization initiatives at NIH, improving usability, accessibility, and adoption of Generative AI tools across federal programs.
Responsibilities
- Design user centered interfaces for AI powered applications with intuitive workflows and smooth interactions
- Develop wireframes, prototypes, and high fidelity UI designs for web based applications
- Conduct user research, usability testing, and iterate designs based on feedback
- Translate complex AI functions into simple, accessible user experiences
- Ensure compliance with federal accessibility standards such as Section 508
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define user journeys, personas, and interaction models
- Build responsive, modern web applications using React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS
- Develop reusable UI components and design systems to support scalable development
- Integrate front end with backend AI services via RESTful APIs
- Optimize performance, responsiveness, and cross browser compatibility
- Work with backend developers to ensure seamless UI integration with AI driven services
- Design interfaces for AI tools such as chatbots, knowledge assistants, and automation platforms
- Integrate LLM based features like conversational interfaces, summarization, and search
- Support UI experiences for Retrieval Augmented Generation workflows and semantic search
- Collaborate with AI engineers to improve usability, explainability, and trust in AI outputs
- Contribute to enhancing client AI Chat Tool with improved UX and interaction design
- Work with product owners, developers, AI engineers, and stakeholders to deliver user focused solutions
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand ups, and retrospectives
- Translate business requirements into design and implementation plans
- Support rapid prototyping and iterative development of AI enabled experiences
- Conduct usability testing and support UAT activities
- Develop and maintain UI/UX documentation, design systems, and style guides
- Create user guides, training materials, and visual documentation for applications
- Support knowledge transfer and training sessions for end users and stakeholders
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in UI/UX design and front end development
- Experience designing and developing responsive web applications using React or similar frameworks
- Experience creating wireframes, prototypes, and UI designs with Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch
- Experience integrating front end applications with APIs and backend services
- Exposure to AI, ML, or Generative AI technologies such as LLMs, chatbots, or automation tools
- Strong understanding of user centered design principles and usability best practices
- Proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript
- Experience using GitHub for version control and collaborative development
