Staff Product Designer
Job Description
Staff Product Designer role at Gecko Robotics focused on turning spatial data into clear, useful experiences for field operators and industrial workers.
Responsibilities
- Partner with field operators, data analysts, and facility workers to understand tasks, constraints, and on-the-job decision-making
- Define workflows and interactions across desktop 3D applications and AR/XR devices, selecting the right medium for each task
- Create functional prototypes using representative spatial data, then test concepts with real users
- Collaborate directly on interface implementation with product engineers, leveraging their support for architecture, data integration, performance, and production reliability
- Design experiences that support understanding of robot activity, inspection coverage, findings, and exceptions within physical environments
- Set consistent interaction principles for spatial navigation, selection, annotation, information hierarchy, and feedback
- Measure what improves task completion, comprehension, and operator workload, and use findings to guide iteration
- Select a valuable field workflow, establish an initial interaction direction, and deliver a working experience in partnership with engineering for evaluation in a representative environment
Requirements
- Experience owning complex product experiences from discovery through delivery
- Strong spatial and interaction-design capability, evidenced by shipped products or substantial working prototypes
- Experience designing for AR/XR, 3D applications, robotics, technical tools, or similar demanding environments
- Ability to build interactive prototypes in code or a real-time development environment and collaborate on production implementation
- Judgment around attention, readability, input methods, hardware limitations, and how digital interfaces relate to physical surroundings
- Comfort setting direction in an emerging product area while working directly with users
- Experience with tools such as Unity, Unreal, Three.js, React, or native XR frameworks would be useful
Technologies
- Unity
- Unreal
- Three.js
- React
- Native XR frameworks
What success looks like
- Within the first 3 to 6 months: identify a valuable field workflow, establish initial interaction direction, and deliver a working experience with engineering for user evaluation in a representative environment
- Use user feedback to shape the next release
- Start as an individual contributor role with substantial ownership and the potential to grow into broader team leadership
