Senior Product Designer, Search Results
Job Description
Own patient search results design at Headway, with a focus on conversion-critical experiences and provider discovery.
Responsibilities
- Lead design for the patient search results experience, including results tiering, provider cards, match explanations, filters and sort, plus sparse and empty states that may reduce care intent
- Design and run sustained experiments on a conversion-critical surface: define the hypothesis, create variants, review results, and decide the next iteration
- Collaborate on how style and experience signals are expressed to patients, partnering with the Ranking team on signals and the Profiles team on where they lead
- Develop a point of view on how search results should evolve, then translate it into shippable increments with PM and EM
- Work with research and data to understand why patients hesitate; run research when needed, and design for patients who do not know what they want yet
- Raise the craft bar on one of Headway’s highest-traffic patient surfaces and evolve the design system where it does not yet meet needs
- Prototype in code and AI tools so the team can react to realistic outputs rather than static mockups
Requirements
- 5-8 years of experience designing consumer products with end-to-end ownership of a live surface used daily
- Portfolio demonstrating mature, shipped craft on dense, information-heavy interfaces
- Experience iterating on a conversion-critical surface over months, with clear reflection on what failed and what worked
- Comfort with numbers: able to name what to measure and what the measurement might miss
- Strong judgment on reducing choice: comfort removing elements when the core problem is too much choice
- Partner effectively with PM and engineering as peers; share work before it is finished; remain effective under pressure without getting brittle
- AI tools already part of your workflow, with experience explaining where they helped, where they were wrong, and what you overrode
- Experience with marketplaces, search, discovery surfaces, or healthcare is a bonus
Team & Role Details
- Design the patient search results page and provider cards, including tiering, card messaging and ordering, and the way match explanations justify selection
- Handle scenarios where there are only two options instead of forty
- Work within the Patient Onboarding pod with a Staff Product Designer, PM, engineering manager, and researcher, plus close collaboration with the team that computes provider relevance
- Pod runs live experiments continuously, enabling visibility into patient responses within days
- Expected to iterate on a shipped surface for weeks at a time rather than designing once and handing off
- Design team is AI-first
