Job Description

A UI/UX designer to own end-to-end product design and design systems in an AI-driven development environment for a funded remote-first startup.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end product design from concept through wireframes, high-fidelity screens, and developer-ready specs; shepherd the user journey from need to shipped product.
  • Build a scalable design system in Figma with reusable components and patterns; document guidelines so visuals stay on brand and engineers can deliver without constant review.
  • Prototype and ship with engineers in Cursor or similar AI-assisted environments; establish design tokens, patterns, and guardrails to keep AI output on brand and production-ready.
  • Identify UX gaps and propose improvements grounded in user needs and business goals; validate decisions using available data and feedback.
  • Apply AI as a core driver across workflows; leverage AI tools for exploration, prototyping, asset generation, and iteration, bringing strong opinions on tool fit.

What success looks like in 30 days

  • Product experience audited with documented UX gaps, friction points, and quick wins prioritized.
  • Meaningful UI/UX improvements shipped; artifacts are used in the current sprint with prototyping happening alongside engineering in Cursor.
  • Reusable Figma components and patterns aligned to the brand, with design tokens and guardrails documented for AI-assisted workflows.
  • Established working rhythm with the Visual Design Director and engineering for review, handoff, and iteration.
  • Proactive UX trade-off discussions and recommendations without waiting for direction on every screen.

Must-haves

  • 5+ years of product UI/UX design experience with a portfolio of shipped product work showing strong interaction design and visual execution (not limited to marketing sites or brand).
  • Systems thinking in Figma; clean, organized component libraries and reusable patterns rather than one-off artboards.
  • Hands-on experience delivering high-quality, developer-ready design artifacts; not just wireframes or strategy.
  • Comfort applying visual direction within an established brand system to product surfaces.
  • Experience collaborating directly with engineers; understanding responsive implementation and translating design intent to code; bonus for AI-assisted environments such as Cursor or Copilot.
  • AI-first mindset; regular use of AI tools across the design process with clear opinions on what works.
  • Startup or high-growth background; accustomed to speed, iteration, and incomplete information.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of product UI/UX design experience with shipped product work and strong interaction and visual execution.
  • Systems thinking in Figma with organized component libraries and reusable patterns.
  • Hands-on and able to ship; produce developer-ready design artifacts.
  • Comfort working within an established brand system, applying direction to product surfaces.
  • Experience collaborating directly with engineers and translating design intent to code; bonus for AI-assisted environments.
  • AI-first mindset with regular use of AI tools in the design workflow.
  • Startup or high-growth background where speed and iteration are routine.

Nice to have

  • Experience with design tokens and developer handoff workflows (Figma to code, Storybook).
  • Familiarity with frontend code (HTML, CSS, React) and willingness to prototype or refine directly in code when faster than handoff.
  • User research experience (usability testing, interviews, analytics-informed design).
  • Motion and micro-interaction design for transitions and interactive states.
  • Experience working fractional or project-based and documenting work for continuity.

What this role is not

  • Not the owner of brand or visual system; you inform the system through product needs but do not own it.
  • Not a learn AI on the job role; you should already be experimenting with AI in design.
  • Not a pure UX research role; you design and ship informed by research.
  • Not a marketing design role; focus is the product experience.
  • Not a slow, heavily spec driven process; we ship and iterate.
