Learning Commons is building AI infrastructure that helps connect how students learn with the tools they use. The team pairs technology with grantmaking to scale proven teaching and learning practices, with a focus on translating learning science into classroom practice.
In this Staff Product Design role, you own developer experience end to end. You set the direction for developer integration flows, onboarding, the dataset catalog, and interactive experiences that help people try products before committing. The intersection is intentionally rare: philanthropic funding means the work optimizes for developer and educator outcomes rather than conversion metrics, and the audience is technical.
What you’ll do
- Own developer experience end to end, building and maintaining a point of view on what drives sustained use. You will use research, usage data, and direct partner contact to turn insights into a roadmap the organization aligns behind.
- Design developer integration views from zero. Define what “good” looks like for developers by establishing visibility into integration performance, including usage, quality, errors, and impact. There is no prior art internally, so you set the foundation.
- Make the platform feel like one product by leading systematic design work across platform, catalog, docs, and marketing surfaces. You will establish patterns and information architecture rather than applying existing ones.
- Extend the dataset catalog and access experience on top of what’s already shipped, including new features, richer discovery, and the permission and organization models that support access.
- Set and raise the craft bar by partnering closely with the design systems lead. You will mentor designers across the team and serve as a reviewer others seek out.
What you bring
- At least 8 years of professional experience.
- Visual craft paired with product thinking. You set the quality bar for the team, with strength in visual and interaction design and a desire to bring brand expression into the product.
- Looping design systems into daily work. Recommendations land in the system rather than remaining one-off. You partner with the systems designer to get patterns adopted.
- Strategic product ownership across an entire product or platform in production. You frame ambiguous problems, make explicit value and risk tradeoffs, and align others even without a fully specified brief.
- Systems instincts and technical depth. Permissions, organization models, and multi-surface navigation are compelling. You can read an API reference, discuss feasibility with engineers, and design within real constraints.
- Comfort with new ways of working. You use AI-native methods to ship fast and learn, prototyping in code and validating early rather than following a strictly linear workflow.
Benefits
- Generous employer match on employee 401(k) contributions.
- Paid time off to volunteer at an organization of your choice.
- Funding for select family-forming benefits.
- Relocation support for employees who need assistance moving.
