Job Description
This role directs Salesforce's Developer Experience (DX) Design team to define and drive end-to-end UX strategy for developer tools and AI-enabled workflows.
Responsibilities
- Set the North Star: Develop a multi-year UX strategy for Salesforce Developer Tools, creating a cohesive ecosystem across CLI, IDE extensions, cloud sandboxes, and AI-assisted canvases.
- Build Instant Technical Trust: Collaborate with product managers, software engineers, and UX designers to translate high level vision into technically feasible architectures.
- Lead by Doing: Balance strategic management with hands-on contribution. Build code-backed prototypes, conduct design and tech spikes, and experiment with emerging developer tooling patterns.
- Pioneer AI-Driven Dev Tooling: Leverage extensive experience with state-of-the-art AI tech, modern LLMs, and developer tooling integrations to shape Agentforce Vibes and other developer tools.
- Design Human-Agent Interaction: Lead the shift toward autonomous agentic workflows, prompt-to-code interfaces, context-aware inline assistance, and human-in-the-loop developer experiences.
- Model Best Practices: Establish AI-fluent design workflows within the team, showing how generative tools and intelligent agents accelerate design-to-development cycles.
- Mentor & Empower: Recruit, mentor, and retain a high-performing team of product designers, hybrid design-technologists, and user researchers.
- Design System Integration: Partner with the Salesforce Lightning Design System (SLDS) team to define UI patterns and component libraries for code editors, terminal interfaces, and canvas workflows.
- Research & Developer Empathy: Oversee qualitative and quantitative developer research, while staying close to developer workflows to minimize cognitive friction for users from junior developers to enterprise architects.
Requirements
- Hybrid Designer and Developer Expertise: Formal training and professional experience in both UX/Product Design and Software Development, such as a degree in HCI or CS or a dual career path as Designer and Front-End/Full-Stack Engineer.
- 10+ years of total experience in UX Design, Product Design, or Developer Tooling.
- 5+ years in a direct people management/leadership role overseeing design teams, with a proven track record as an active leader who also contributes hands-on.
- Proven AI Fluency: 2+ years of hands-on experience building with, designing for, or developing against modern AI tools, LLMs, AI coding assistants, or agentic frameworks.
- Developer Domain and Persona Expertise: Deep familiarity with developer jobs to be done, workflows, mental models, and daily toolchains (IDE extensions, Git, CLI, CI/CD pipelines, APIs, and cloud environments).
- Lead by Example with Hands-On Prototyping: Ability to write code to create high-fidelity, interactive prototypes that demonstrate UX vision to executives and engineering partners.
- Portfolio Required: Must show examples of design leadership, team mentorship, hands-on technical/coded artifacts, complex systems design, and AI-driven interfaces.
- A related technical degree required.
