Product Designer
Job Description
Join the User Experience (UX) and Digital Customer Experience team within the Information Technology Division at American Airlines. In this onsite role in Fort Worth, TX, you will help turn large, complex applications into simple, intuitive experiences by conceptualizing, prototyping, and delivering UX work across the full design lifecycle.
What you’ll do
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team using agile methodology to define user stories and UX deliverables
- Apply UX best practices, design principles, and research to influence design direction and product owner decisions
- Work with developers to find effective, efficient implementation approaches from inception through delivery
- Collect, analyze, present, and action feedback, including managing changes to UX deliverables
- Present work clearly to stakeholders, including design recommendations supported by best practices, research data, or business requirements
- Design visual style, interface, and interaction flow for applications and experiences
- Create conceptual diagrams, wireframes, visual mockups, and prototypes
- Develop and maintain detailed specifications and design patterns, translating rules and assets into UX systems, programs, and enterprise solutions
- Prepare and maintain UX documentation such as navigational flows, wireframes, mock-ups, use cases, task flows, prototypes, content, and system error documentation
- Advocate for the user and collaborate with business owners to develop features and flows that align with user needs
- Build research strategies based on project KPIs, develop usability test plans, scripts, and scenarios, and regularly formulate and test hypotheses during iterations
- Use research methods including heuristic reviews, user interviews, and remote unmoderated and in-person testing to assess ease-of-use and comprehension
- Design, recruit or schedule, and moderate usability studies and user interviews
- Provide timely project status reporting, including remaining work, issues, and risks
- Manage communications needed to complete projects, including negotiating with key stakeholders
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Visual Design, Library Sciences, or another related discipline, or equivalent experience or training
- 2 years of experience as a UX practitioner with a background in user experience design, interaction design, or similar
- Strong skills in modern design and prototyping tools: Axure, Sketch, Zeplin, Flinto, Adobe CC
- Experience partnering closely with developers from inception through implementation in an agile environment
- Advanced analytical skills for complex data problems and sustainable solution approaches
- Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines, product lines, roles, locations, and time zones
- Knowledge of remote unmoderated testing tools and moderated testing devices and platforms
- In-depth understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods
- Solid grasp of user-centered design principles and trends in web and app design
- Experience rapidly iterating designs for user testing and delivery to development teams
- Experience with responsive, adaptive, and accessible design
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and communicate effectively with non-technical users
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field, or equivalent experience or training
- 3+ years of experience as a UX practitioner
