Job Description

Tavus is on the hunt for a craft-obsessed, systems-minded Product Designer based in San Francisco, CA for an onsite role. The team is evolving its product suite and needs a designer who can consolidate, architect, and elevate its design systems work, with a path to wider product ownership as the foundation matures.

This role starts with strengthening the design system, including the underlying structure that lets it adapt across products and surfaces. Over time, the position is expected to grow from system leadership into ownership of a product area.

What you’ll do

  • Define the token architecture, component structure, and theming model (light, dark, and beyond) so the system scales without forking or drifting across products and interfaces.
  • Set standards, maintain documentation, and shape a contribution model that keeps the system coherent as more designers and engineers participate; act as the clear, decisive voice when tradeoffs become contested.
  • Collaborate closely with frontend engineers to ensure implementations match the design system faithfully and work effectively in practice.
  • Apply meticulous visual and interaction craft, including motion and micro-interaction detail, so components and patterns feel intentional and distinctly Tavus.
  • Improve adoption by making the system easier to use than not using it through the right artifacts, documentation, and working relationships that encourage designers, engineers, and marketers to choose the system first.

What you bring

  • An exceptional eye for typography, color, layout, and detail, along with strong motion design capabilities.
  • 6+ years of experience with solid UX judgment, including fluency in user flows, interaction patterns, and product tradeoffs so your systems hold up under real product pressure.
  • Experience building and governing design systems at scale, with the ability to show a system you architected and evolved (bonus if you’ve worked both within an existing component framework and on from-scratch builds).
  • The ability to produce something distinct, plus comfort walking through key decisions, the reasoning behind them, and the outcomes those choices delivered.
  • Strong communication that explains why a decision is correct, including the willingness to challenge your own instincts as readily as you challenge others’.
  • Capability to weigh tradeoffs, make defensible choices when there’s no clean answer, and still stay meticulous about details within each decision.
  • Comfort working close to code: reviewing implementations, identifying and stopping drift between design and build, and speaking the language of the engineers who ship the system.
  • Ability to operate with minimal specs and shifting priorities, protecting the highest quality bar while still moving quickly.

Benefits

  • Flexible work schedule
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Competitive healthcare
  • Gear stipends
  • Pleasant team energy with plenty of fun
  • Growth and impact: learn, directly drive impact, and work with a team you love

Culture and inclusion

  • Tavus is inclusive and values diverse backgrounds, skill sets, and perspectives to build better experiences for clients.
  • The company emphasizes culture creators over a “cultural fit” approach.
