Staff Product Designer
Job Description
Motion Recruitment is hiring a Staff Product Designer (Design Systems) to lead strategic design work across multiple product areas in a remote-first, fast-moving environment. This role focuses on shaping end-user experiences while building and scaling a design system that helps teams move with consistency and quality.
Working in close partnership with Product, Engineering, and leadership, you will help establish design standards, influence strategic decisions, and reinforce a design culture grounded in usability and business impact. The position is based in San Jose, CA with remote within Canada.
What you’ll do
- Own and drive end-to-end product design initiatives across multiple product areas
- Provide design system leadership, including shaping scalable design patterns, frameworks, and user experiences
- Partner with Product and Engineering to influence roadmap and strategic decisions
- Establish and evolve design standards across the organization
- Lead design work from discovery and research through delivery and iteration
- Maintain and expand a scalable design system used across multiple products and teams
- Create reusable components, interaction patterns, and documentation
- Collaborate with engineers to support high-quality implementation and consistency
- Simplify complex workflows into intuitive user experiences
- Facilitate stakeholder discussions and align teams around user and business needs
- Define best practices for design processes and team collaboration
- Mentor and support fellow designers through feedback, reviews, and coaching
- Influence product strategy through research, insights, and design leadership
What you bring
- 10+ years of product design experience in software, SaaS, or digital product organizations
- Significant experience building, managing, or scaling design systems
- Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives independently
- Strong collaboration skills with Product, Engineering, and executive stakeholders
- Experience working on complex workflows and multi-surface product experiences
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Comfort working in fast-moving and evolving environments
- A strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product ownership, systems thinking, complex problem solving, and measurable business and customer impact

Nice to have

- Exposure to data-rich applications, dashboards, or operational tools
