Web Designer / Developer

Valex LLC is seeking a Web Designer / Developer in Washington, DC to shape the look, feel, and usability of client web pages. This onsite role combines design creation with hands-on implementation work, partnering with engineers to support online biomedical databases and related product experiences.

Role Summary

The Web Designer / Developer will produce and execute web page design deliverables, including graphic design and planning site layout and organization alongside engineers. The position includes design and implementation responsibilities such as layouts and graphics for online biomedical databases, UI design, feature implementation, testing, and troubleshooting Internet technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Conceive, create, and execute layouts, designs, logos, and graphics for online biomedical databases.
• Develop color palettes and apply standard design techniques to build attractive, functional user interfaces.
• Use user-centered design techniques and best practices to design websites and support a positive user experience.
• Implement new product features into new and existing websites.
• Manage multiple priorities across regular task requests, small projects, and team-based work on larger projects.
• Conduct cross-browser and interface testing.
• Perform troubleshooting and debugging of internet technologies.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum BA/BS (or equivalent full-time experience) in web design or related areas.
• Background in fine arts, graphic design, or publishing.
• Proficiency with design programs including Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat.
• Knowledge of graphic design principles, production, and layout and design.
• Creative drive and an emphasis on visual conceptualization.
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, XML, and XSLT.
• Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to pass an entry level written test.
