UI/UX Engineer

The UI/UX Design Engineer role supports the Case Management Modernization (CMM) Program by connecting design practice with engineering delivery. You will help produce accessible, high-performing user experiences and production-ready React code within Agile teams for AWS-based applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with Product Owners, UI Architects, Developers, and HCD Specialists to convert research findings into actionable UI specifications.
• Serve as a design-to-engineering bridge by translating high-fidelity prototypes into responsive, accessible, and performant front-end applications and reusable UI components using React.
• Apply Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles to ensure alignment with program objectives and Agile ceremonies.
• Define and enforce UI/UX and front-end coding standards that promote consistency and reusability.
• Assess designs for compliance with Section 508, usability expectations, and WCAG accessibility guidance.
• Use rapid prototyping and validation to support iterative feedback loops within sprint cycles.
• Provide recommendations on UI consistency, interaction design, and reuse of design system assets.
• Work with Quality Assurance and Compliance teams to validate usability and accessibility for production releases.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in UI/UX design development, including 5+ years in a Human-Centered Design role supporting enterprise or government applications.
• Strong understanding of Agile/SAFe delivery and iterative design integration.
• Expertise in usability testing methods such as heuristic evaluations, card sorting, and A/B testing.
• Proficiency with design and prototyping tools including Figma, Sketch, Storybook, Axure, Miro or similar tools.
• Strong proficiency in React, including reusable functional components, component state and props, responsive interfaces, and integrating UI components into production applications.
• Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript, and responsive design principles to translate UI/UX into production-ready React interfaces.
• Strong experience with Sass or other CSS preprocessors.
• Experience designing for federal systems with practical knowledge of Section 508 and WCAG compliance.
• Excellent storytelling and communication skills for presenting design and development rationale to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Design, or a related field.
• Experience designing for federal digital modernization programs or court/case management systems.
• Familiarity with DesignOps and UX governance practices.
• Exposure to data-driven UX optimization using analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Hotjar.
• Understanding of Zero Trust Design and secure user interface principles.
• Knowledge of AI-assisted UX tools or predictive usability models.
• CUA or Certified HCD Professional is preferred.
• SAFe Agile Practitioner (SPC or SSM) is preferred.
• Section 508 Trusted Tester Certification is highly desirable.
• UX Design or HCD Certification (NN/g, IDEO, or HFI) is beneficial.
• 10+ years of general experience in information systems.
• 8+ years of specialized experience.
• Minimum education: BA/BS.
• Experience may be considered in lieu of degree: HS (16+ years), AA/AS (14+ years), BA/BS (12+ years), Doctorate Degree/Ph.D. (9+ years).

Compensation

The likely salary range for this position is $128,039 - $173,229 per year. This range is not a guarantee; compensation is set based on experience, geographic location, and possibly contractual requirements, and may fall outside the stated range.
