UI/UX Designer 2

Based in Walnut Creek, CA, Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies is seeking a UI/UX Designer 2 to shape customer experiences across internal and external applications. This onsite role pairs ownership of design strategy for multiple digital products with collaboration alongside Product, Engineering, and Marketing teams to deliver customer-focused experiences. The position requires a Bachelor's degree and at least five years of UI/UX experience, with a salary range of USD 105,200 to 129,840 per year.

Responsibilities

• Make strategic design decisions anchored in user needs, business goals, and available resources.
• Facilitate discussions with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including Designers, Product Managers, Marketing Managers, Architects, and Engineers.
• Conduct contextual user research, share findings with stakeholders, and translate insights into subsequent design iterations through activities such as usability testing, interviews, and surveys.
• Stay current as an expert in the latest UI/UX practices for mobile and web design, taking smart risks and championing ideas grounded in data and best practices, with emphasis on simple, modern design and accessibility.
• Iterate the product design cycle, covering user research, storyboarding, user journeys, wireframes, prototypes, and tests.
• Translate complex user requirements into intuitive, aesthetically pleasing, and enjoyable solutions.
• Collaborate with the user acceptance test team to verify all new digital assets and user flows.
• Contribute to the Pattern Library to maintain consistency across digital products.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Interactive/User Design or equivalent from a four-year college or university is required.
• Experience: A minimum of five years as a UI/UX Designer with demonstrated experience designing web and mobile experiences for consumers, participation in full product cycles from concept to launch, and designing complex digital environments. Hands-on experience with wireframing tools (e.g., Figma, Axure, Photoshop, Illustrator). Experience with IE, Chrome, and iOS platforms.
• Technical Skills: Subject matter expert for user experience, visual design, interactive design, user research, information architecture, and design principles. Content strategy is a plus. Knowledge of major browsers and cross-browser/platform/device compatibility issues. Technical acumen with web technologies - HTML, CSS, JS (React, Angular, etc.).
• Math and Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions furnished in various formats.
• Innovation and Initiative: Recognizes opportunities, takes action, and applies sound judgment to deploy innovations that improve return on investment. Analyzes past concepts and trends to devise new efficiencies.
• Conceptual Thinking: Continuously updates knowledge of mobile and web design trends and identifies areas for end-user experience improvements.
