Job Description
UI/UX Designer responsible for designing and maintaining WisVote UI/UX for Wisconsin's statewide voter registration system built on .NET Core, focusing on accessibility and usability in collaboration with developers and election specialists.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain the WisVote UI/UX as part of rebuilding Wisconsin's statewide voter registration system on the .NET Core framework.
- Collaborate with developers and WisVote election specialists to translate functional needs into accessible, user-friendly designs.
- Perform accessibility testing to verify WCAG 2.1 AA compliance and compatibility with assistive technologies.
- Ensure the rebuilt application delivers a consistent, responsive experience across devices and assistive tech.
- Create intuitive, efficient, and accessible designs that meet usability and security requirements while preserving the structure familiar to system users.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience creating low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes to visualize and test design concepts.
- At least 3 years of experience writing clear, concise, user-friendly text for interfaces.
- At least 3 years of experience conducting user research, gathering qualitative and quantitative data, and analyzing it to inform design decisions.
- At least 3 years of experience creating user personas, user flows, and journey maps to understand user needs and behaviors.

Description of Role
- The Wisconsin Elections Commission administers and enforces Wisconsin's election laws and provides education, training, outreach, technical assistance, and guidance to municipal clerks, county clerks, and local election inspectors, ensuring compliance with laws and required procedures.
- A core function is to supply current information to the public and various governmental entities about electoral processes, voting statistics, and trends.
- The role operates under the supervision of the IT Project Manager and IT Director within the Information Technology team, serving as a resource for developers and election specialists.
- The position is responsible for designing, helping to develop, and maintaining the WisVote UI/UX, Wisconsin's statewide voter registration system built on the .NET Core framework.
- WisVote serves as the state's central database of voter and election information and is the primary tool for local election officials; the role must produce intuitive, efficient, and accessible designs that meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards and align usability with security while preserving a familiar structure for system users.
- The designer will collaborate with developers and WisVote election specialists to translate needs into usable designs, perform accessibility testing, and ensure a consistent, responsive experience across devices and assistive technologies.
- Compliance with the agency's timekeeping system is required to ensure tasks funded by federal guidelines or state funds are properly accounted for.
