Job Description

The Staff Product Designer for Editorial Platforms leads design initiatives for CNN’s publishing workflow, collaborating with cross-functional teams to shape editorial experiences and storytelling tools within a high-impact publishing platform.

Responsibilities

  • Develop information architecture diagrams, experience journeys, user flows, wireframes, design mockups, and interactive prototypes to concept and communicate product features.
  • Run regular user research sessions with editorial users to inform decisions.
  • Conduct usability testing and translate findings into informed recommendations.
  • Create, contribute to, and maintain tokens and components within the design system.
  • Advocate for design principles, design systems, and the product roadmap to meet editorial team needs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and team members to brainstorm, envision, and validate new features and functionalities for CNN's publishing platform.

Requirements

  • 8+ years as a product designer, with at least 2 recent years in content or media management systems, enterprise, or productivity tooling.
  • Proficiency in Figma 124.4+ including variables, components, styles, and shared libraries.
  • Experience prototyping with AI using tools such as Figma Make, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar.
  • Ability to integrate AI into the design workflow to test ideas efficiently and communicate solutions clearly and rapidly.
  • Skill in utilizing, creating, and modifying design system components to deliver scalable, engaging experiences.
  • CSS, HTML, and/or JavaScript experience is not required but considered a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and visual communication, with the ability to craft insightful presentations and align stakeholders across multiple levels.
  • Proven capability to manage complex design challenges both individually and with internal and external collaborators.
  • Experience supporting a distributed team in a fast-paced, nimble environment.
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative work ethic.
  • Experience creating and utilizing a Design System.
  • Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience.

Compensation

Base pay range: $119,000.00 - $221,000.00 per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, and program-specific awards.
