Senior/Staff Product Designer
Job Description
Skylight Digital is hiring a Senior/Staff Product Designer for fully remote work across the United States. In this role, you’ll serve as a primary user advocate on cross-functional teams, helping shape product strategy for government modernization work. Expect meaningful design impact, human-centered collaboration, and a work environment built for “public good” outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Define end-to-end flows that include well-thought-out information architecture, systems thinking, design principles, and common design patterns
- Create simple, elegant user interfaces in Figma, and evolve existing visual systems with clear rationale
- Partner with product managers, engineers, researchers, and government partners to shape product strategy for net-new capabilities
- Identify creative ways to reach users where access is limited, and bring findings back to the team and client
- Plan and conduct generative and evaluative research to inform strategic product and design direction
- Champion human-centered design principles and support the client organization as it becomes more customer-centric through agile transformation
Requirements
- Ability to define scalable, end-to-end interaction flows with intentional information architecture, common design patterns, accessibility, and key design principles
- Strong visual design execution to create simple, elegant interfaces using elements such as branding, illustration, iconography, typography, and microinteractions
- Experience with design processes (for example, double diamond) and the ability to produce documentation for storytelling that builds empathy for users
- Capability to plan, synthesize, and share generative and evaluative user research to guide product and design direction
- Experience contributing to product strategy by aligning design processes with lean/agile methodologies, balancing user and business decisions, and crafting mental models for product opportunities
- Clear facilitation and communication skills, including explaining design rationale to users, teammates, and stakeholders
- Demonstrated product design leadership through driving excellence in team design execution
- Experience collaborating on cross-functional teams (product, design, engineering, ops) in iterative delivery
- Ability to coach and enable government partners on human-centered design principles
- A mindset and working approach aligned with core values
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with legacy modernization and/or enterprise digital transformation efforts
- Hands-on experience designing in Figma
- Military or Department of Defense experience
- Experience delivering technology in government, regulated industries, or other public-benefit settings
- A track record of staying aligned and accountable on remote teams

Additional Role Details
- Full-time, exempt
- Fully remote position
- Travel to Air Force bases across the U.S., quarterly at most
- Some roles on federal contracts require a degree or additional years of experience as a substitute
- All work must be conducted within the U.S., excluding U.S. territories
- U.S. citizenship is required for eligibility
- No security clearance required, but you must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC), which includes a government background check
- Successful completion of a company background check is required
Salary (U.S.): USD 90,000–230,000 per year. Senior Product Designer: $150,000–$185,000. Staff Product Designer: $170,000–$203,000.
Interview process: preliminary screen, skills interview, behavioral interview, and a reverse interview where you meet your potential team. Usually four conversations across two to three weeks.
