Product Designer, Growth

OpenAI is hiring a Product Designer, Growth to shape how startups, small businesses, and growing teams discover, adopt, and unlock lasting value from ChatGPT across the full customer journey. This is a hands-on role focused on end-to-end growth design, experimentation, and close collaboration with cross-functional partners, based onsite at the San Francisco headquarters.

Role Focus

• Own end-to-end design for growth experiences across ChatGPT.
• Design and iterate experiences across user lifecycle stages, including discovery, onboarding, activation, engagement, collaboration, conversion, and retention.
• Convert ambiguous opportunities into clear hypotheses, prototypes, and refined product experiences.
• Set a high standard for interaction design, visual craft, systems thinking, content, and end-to-end coherence.
• Translate rapidly evolving AI capabilities into approachable experiences for people with a wide range of technical expertise.
• Move between longer-term product vision and fast, iterative execution.
• Develop reusable patterns and insights that strengthen growth experiences across ChatGPT.

Collaboration and Experimentation

• Partner closely with product, engineering, data science, research, and go-to-market teams to shape strategy and execution.
• Use quantitative data, experimentation, research, and qualitative insights to identify opportunities and evaluate outcomes.

What You’ll Bring

• A portfolio demonstrating exceptional product thinking, interaction design, and visual craft across complex, shipped products.
• Experience leading substantial product initiatives from early exploration through launch and iteration.
• Strong product judgment, with the ability to connect user needs, business goals, technical possibilities, and measurable outcomes.
• Comfort working with data and experiments while balancing quantitative signals with research, intuition, and design judgment.
• The ability to move quickly while maintaining clarity, coherence, trust, and craft.
• Fluency in using AI to explore, prototype, communicate, and extend what you can build.
• Ability to form a clear point of view and actionable product direction from ambiguous, fast-moving problems.
• Strong communication through narratives and prototypes that align cross-functional teams.
• Interest in rethinking established growth patterns and creating interactions that feel native to AI.
• A deep commitment to building products that are useful, trustworthy, and worthy of users’ time.

Helpful but not required: Direct experience in growth design or developer products.

Compensation

Base salary: USD 245,000 - 310,000 per year.

Additional compensation: Offers Equity.

The base pay offered may vary depending on individualized factors and performance-related bonus(es) for eligible employees, in addition to the listed benefits. This role is at-will, and OpenAI reserves the right to modify base pay and other compensation components at any time based on individual performance, team or company results, or market conditions.
