Web Designer
Job Description
Hex Technologies invites a seasoned Web Designer to shape the visual and experiential direction of its online presence. Based in San Francisco with remote options, this role blends design leadership with hands-on front-end engineering in React and Next.js, guiding everything from the public website to the documentation site and beyond. The position offers a competitive salary range of $170,000 to $240,000 per year and opportunities to mentor a growing team while driving the long-term web strategy.
Responsibilities
- Own the design and user experience across all Hex web surfaces, including the website, documentation site, and future experiences.
- Design and deliver production-ready front-end code using React/Next.js and CSS, guiding concepts through to shipped UI.
- Collaborate on launch assets with marketing to ensure major product moments are visually clear, compelling, and on-brand.
- Define and maintain visual quality, patterns, and consistency across every web experience.
- Work closely with designers and marketers to translate stories into clear, well-crafted experiences.
- Shape the long-term web roadmap by identifying opportunities for performance, storytelling, and experimentation.
- Partner with engineering teams while directly contributing front-end code to ensure high-quality implementation.
- Support product illustrations and light motion to add personality to key moments.
- Over time, hire, manage, and mentor a team of engineers and designers.
- Influence design processes, standards, and the creative culture of the team.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in web, visual, or UI design with a portfolio demonstrating advanced craft, storytelling, and systems thinking.
- Strong capabilities in UX, layout, visual design, and typography.
- Experience designing marketing surfaces for technical, B2B, or product-led companies.
- Fluent in front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, React/Next.js) and able to ship production-quality code.
- Attention to implementation details and hands-on execution rather than relying solely on handoffs.
- Sharp eye for visual consistency, motion, micro-interactions, and illustration.
- Autonomous with a velocity-driven mindset, owning projects from concept to launch.
- Interest in establishing processes, patterns, and rituals for a growing design team.
- Clear, humble communication of design decisions with cross-functional fluency.
- Enjoys both broad creative direction and practical implementation, with enthusiasm for campaign work and ongoing site iteration.
