UX Product Designer
Job Description
Hewlett Packard Enterprise is looking for a Product Designer II to help shape AI-augmented, production-ready UI and experiences for IT operators. The role focuses on scaled research, prototype craft, and evaluation of AI or agentic product behavior.
Role Overview
As a UX Product Designer, you will own a defined product area within HPE that supports assistant, self-driving workflows and automated actions, or assurance dashboards. You will partner closely with your PM and engineers to frame problems clearly, explore solutions broadly, and ship design work that connects to real outcomes for IT operators.
Key Responsibilities
- Own a defined product area and collaborate with PMs and engineers to frame problems, explore options, and deliver work tied to business outcomes for IT operators.
- Develop deep product-area knowledge, including jobs to be done, competitor approaches, and where gaps exist.
- Connect execution to the long-term product vision by assisting PMs and senior designers through mocks, decks, and written narratives.
- Define the key questions and problem statements based on research and data, and align the team on them before designing.
- Run AI-scaled qualitative research using tools such as User Intuition, Listen Labs, and Perspective AI to automate recruiting, moderate asynchronous interviews, and probe “why” across hundreds of users.
- Synthesize unstructured inputs including support calls, transcripts, feedback, and tickets into converged insights using AI thematic clustering tools such as Dovetail, CoLoop, and Enterpret.
- Interpret product metrics and make data-informed design decisions, including diagnosis using AI-native analytics such as Fullstory frustration signals and Mixpanel/Amplitude AI assistants.
- Explore a wide range of visual directions and communicate trade-offs, recognizing when industry patterns should be followed or challenged.
- Build prototypes that go beyond click-throughs, including motion, transitions, and states that feel like the real experience.
- Prototype in working front-end code by guiding AI agents (VS Code, Claude Design, Lovable, v0, Cursor, Replit, Bolt) grounded in HPE design system, accessibility standards, and user context.
- Use AI error outputs to keep momentum instead of hand-debugging, and integrate existing codebase and design-system context by reaching for existing libraries before building from scratch.
- Run multiple agent workstreams in parallel with intentional context switching.
- Design for edge cases within complex systems and document your portion of the system so others can extend it.
- Use AI to generate the majority of commodity UI quickly (forms, lists, settings) and apply manual craft to the portion AI cannot replicate.
- Contribute components and patterns to the design system as a “UI toolbox” that AI agents can reliably assemble, supporting Generative UI.
- Treat AI features as non-deterministic systems by helping define what good and bad experiences look like before shipping.
- Contribute subjective rubrics (clarity, helpfulness, tone, and brand alignment) to make experience quality measurable.
- Partner with research and PM on golden datasets and operating limits, supporting scaled evaluation such as LLM-as-a-Judge.
- Communicate clearly in writing, present work with a strong narrative and context, and build confidence leading meetings.
- Maintain a predictable and transparent process, manage bandwidth, triage feedback, and ensure items do not fall through the cracks.
- Prioritize based on how design work contributes to the business, follow through post-launch, participate in bug bashes, and propose improvements to increase impact.
- Support team growth by providing feedback and skill shares and contributing to culture improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of product design experience.
- Strong foundations in visual design, interaction design, and design systems, with a portfolio demonstrating breadth of exploration and articulated trade-offs.
- Hands-on fluency (or demonstrated fast learning) with at least one AI design-to-code or vibe design tool (e.g., VS Code, Claude Design, Lovable, v0, Cursor, Replit, Bolt, Stitch) and at least one AI research or analytics tool (e.g., Dovetail, Perspective AI, Fullstory, Mixpanel).
- Comfort working with data, including reading funnels, questioning metrics, and using evidence to guide design decisions.
- A builder’s temperament with a bias toward working prototypes, curiosity when tools break, and pride in details that create crafted experiences.
