Job Description

BigBear.ai is seeking a Lead UI/UX Designer to help create user-centric digital products that feel intuitive, responsive, and well-crafted from research through implementation. This onsite role in Ashburn, VA blends deep user understanding with hands-on front-end development, including reusable JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, and the tooling to prototype and validate ideas.

What you’ll do

  • Conduct research to analyze users’ digital behaviors and interaction patterns, turning insights into design decisions
  • Develop UI and UX strategies aligned with business goals, improving overall user experience
  • Build and maintain a library of reusable digital assets, including interface design files, wireframes, and interactive prototypes using tools such as Sketch and InVision
  • Design, build, and sustain clean, reusable JavaScript, HTML, and CSS implementations that match design intent with precision and performance
  • Work with cross-functional teams to account for technical constraints and business realities, providing guidance to ensure solutions are both creative and feasible

What you bring

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ years of professional experience in software development, specializing in modern JavaScript frameworks
  • 7+ years developing dynamic applications using Vue, React, and Angular, with a portfolio or live examples demonstrating your code
  • Deep knowledge of JavaScript tooling, including preprocessors and transpilers such as PUG, SCSS, and Babel
  • Experience with Node.js for backend and tooling support
  • Proficiency with Git and experience with large-team workflows, including branching strategies, pull requests, and thorough code reviews
  • Familiarity with C#/.NET is a plus (not required)
  • Skilled visual design experience using tools such as Photoshop or Illustrator
  • Expertise in wireframing and UI/UX tools including MockPlus, Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD
  • A portfolio showing JavaScript capability and a strong understanding of SOLID design principles through plugins, node packages, or reusable components
  • Expert-level CSS knowledge, including Less and Sass and their associated preprocessor tools
  • Mastery of HTML5 and best practices for building modern, accessible web interfaces
  • Experience designing interactive interfaces and building clickable prototypes using tools such as Sketch, InVision, or Axure
  • Comfort and proficiency with Git and the command line to streamline development workflows
  • 7+ years as a skilled front-end developer delivering polished, high-performance UI
  • 7+ years as a UI/UX designer focused on intuitive, engaging digital experiences
  • Mastery of semantic, accessible HTML and CSS, including Flexbox, Grid, CSS Custom Properties, CSS Functions, and Scalable CSS, following BEM naming methodology
  • Extensive experience with modern JavaScript (ESNext), including Module Syntax and native Web Components to build modular, maintainable codebases
