Staff Product Designer
Job Description
Quizlet is building experiences that help new learners move from first visit to committed study. This hybrid role in California (San Francisco) focuses on designing the end-to-end product moments that drive activation and early retention, supported by experimentation and AI-powered personalization. You will shape how sign up, onboarding, personalization, first study sessions, and early habit loops work together to create measurable learning momentum.
What you’ll do
- Own end-to-end design for large, complex, multi-feature projects across the new-learner journey, including sign up, onboarding, personalization, first study session, and early habit loops
- Lead projects from discovery through launch and iteration, delivering high-quality outcomes independently
- Drive measurable impact to activation and early retention metrics
- Connect onboarding experiences to the broader product so first impressions flow naturally into Quizlet’s core learning activities
- Run productively structured discussions with clear recommendations, while staying open to alternate ideas when it improves learner outcomes
- Evaluate trade-offs openly, such as speed to value versus personalization, or conversion versus long-term engagement
- Facilitate alignment so projects move smoothly into successful implementation
- Deliver well-crafted solutions by assessing multiple options and trade-offs
- Use quantitative and qualitative insight, including funnel analysis, A/B tests, and UX research, to find friction and turn it into opportunities
- Design and iterate on experiments, then apply results to guide the next iteration of work
- Apply current best practices and emerging technologies, including AI-powered personalization, to raise the team’s bar
- Continuously improve how you use AI in your design process, building speed and quality as your technical knowledge grows
What you bring
- 5+ years of product design experience, with a portfolio showing end-to-end ownership of complex, multi-feature projects
- Experience designing onboarding, activation, growth, or conversion experiences at consumer scale
- Strong interaction and visual design craft, plus systems thinking across web and native mobile
- Comfort with data, including defining success metrics and using funnel analysis and experiment results to shape decisions
- A track record of working independently, proactively resolving issues, and driving alignment across product, engineering, and marketing partners
- Clear communication of design rationale, including leading discussions with recommendations and debating trade-offs
- Experience giving feedback that improves the quality of peers’ work
- Curiosity and thought leadership on current best practices and emerging technologies, including AI, and how they can make learning more personal
- Experience designing for students, education, or younger audiences is a plus, including familiarity with privacy and age-appropriate design
