Job Description

Design AI-powered learning tools that help new learners move from first sign-up to meaningful study habits. This temporary Staff Product Designer role is hybrid in San Francisco, with an emphasis on improving the new-learner journey through thoughtful craft, measurable outcomes, and emerging AI-enabled personalization.

What you’ll work on

You will own end-to-end design for large, complex, multi-feature initiatives across the new-learner journey, including sign up, onboarding, personalization, the first study session, and early habit loops. Your work connects onboarding experiences to Quizlet’s broader core learning moments, so first impressions naturally flow into the product’s study value.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end design of large, complex, multi-feature projects spanning sign up, onboarding, personalization, first study session, and early habit loops
  • Take independent ownership from discovery through launch and iteration, delivering work to a high standard of quality
  • Drive measurable impact to activation and early retention metrics
  • Facilitate alignment by leading discussions with clear recommendations, while staying open to others’ ideas when it improves the learner outcome
  • Evaluate and debate trade-offs, such as speed to value versus personalization, or conversion versus long-term engagement
  • Deliver well-crafted solutions to complex problems by comparing multiple options and trade-offs
  • Use quantitative and qualitative insights, including funnel analysis, A/B tests, and UX research, to identify friction and create opportunities
  • Design and iterate experiments, using results to guide subsequent work
  • Apply current best practices and emerging technologies, including AI-powered personalization, to raise the bar for the team’s work
  • Innovate in how AI is used throughout the design process, increasing speed while growing technical knowledge to support higher-quality experiences

Requirements

  • 5+ years of product design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership of complex, multi-feature projects
  • Experience designing onboarding, activation, growth, or conversion experiences at consumer scale
  • Strong interaction and visual design craft, with systems thinking across web and native mobile
  • Comfort with data: defining success metrics, reading funnels and experiment results, and using them to shape decisions
  • Proven ability to work independently, proactively resolve issues, and drive alignment across product, engineering, and marketing partners
  • Clear communication of design rationale, including leading discussions with recommendations and debating trade-offs
  • Experience giving feedback that improves peers’ work quality
  • Thoughtfulness about current best practices and emerging technologies, including AI, and how they can support more personal learning
  • Experience designing for students, education, or younger audiences is a plus, including familiarity with privacy and age-appropriate design

Tech you’ll use

  • AI-powered personalization
  • A/B tests
