Staff Product Designer

Within is building an AI-native enterprise product, and this Staff Product Designer role is a senior individual contributor position with end-to-end ownership. You’ll set design and design-system vision, collaborate closely with engineering to turn concepts into working prototypes and shipped product, and help shape AI-native UX patterns for enterprise workflows. Based in San Francisco, CA (onsite), this role also includes equity alongside competitive compensation.

Compensation: USD 250,000 - 313,000 per year.

Responsibilities

• Own a product area end to end: lead complex, strategic design efforts from problem definition through a real, shipped experience.
• Set systems vision: keep the full product coherent as it scales by anticipating how flows, data, and product areas fit together, including cross-area collisions.
• Define how design and code work together: bring designs into the product with engineering alongside you, use AI tools fluently (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, etc.), and help establish prototyping and shipping practices.
• Own AI-native UX patterns: lead end-to-end UX for AI-native and agentic workflows, including human-in-the-loop oversight, transparency, trust calibration, and evaluation criteria for what good AI output looks like.
• Ground decisions in users and outcomes: drive product discovery and user research using qualitative signals (interviews, usability testing) and quantitative data (product analytics, metrics, experiments), and define measurable outcomes.
• Drive design-system strategy in the AI era: own components, tokens, patterns, and governance so the system scales across design and code with consistent, accessible, on-brand UI. Set guardrails for AI-assisted UI so it stays coherent as the team and product grow.
• Level up the team: raise the craft bar through mentorship, feedback, and knowledge-sharing.

Requirements

• A designer who ships and multiplies: you build your own work and make the designers around you stronger.
• AI-native in how you think: AI is already core to your process and problem-solving.
• Exceptional craft and taste: strong instincts for interaction, hierarchy, states, and edge cases, and the ability to set a quality bar others calibrate to.
• A systems thinker at product scale: you understand how components, flows, and data come together across complex enterprise experiences, including foreseeing cross-area collisions.
• Comfort with ambiguity and high agency: you identify high-value problems and move strategy and people forward without formal authority.
• Relevant fit indicators: extensive experience designing complex software, a track record leading ambiguous, high-impact work end to end, and examples of raising the bar across a team.
