Job Description

Degreed is hiring a Senior Product Designer to help shape experiences across its learning and skills platform, including the AI coach Maestro. In this role, you will own end-to-end design work and extend Degreed’s design system while making AI-first decisions about where workflows benefit from visible UI and where they can remain observable and auditable.

What you’ll do

  • Own end-to-end design for features across the learning and skills platform, from problem framing and discovery through specs and QA, continuing through launch and impact.
  • Lead customer calls and/or directly solicit customer feedback to strengthen design and product sense.
  • Drive continuous improvement in quality, usability, and overall user experience.
  • Extend and maintain Degreed’s design system, assessing when a new component is needed versus when an existing one should be reused.
  • Audit and rework existing surfaces (including admin settings, profile, and core learning workflows) to reduce inconsistency as the product evolves.
  • For each new workflow, decide whether it requires visible UI, including what AI can handle invisibly versus what must remain observable and auditable for the user.
  • Design conversational and agent-facing experiences alongside traditional UI, extending the design system and emerging AI interaction patterns rather than treating AI work as a separate visual language.
  • Partner with product and tech leads to scope work and define requirements.
  • Present designs in review, incorporate cross-functional feedback, and protect the core interaction model from erosion.
  • Act as an expert for pod or product areas of focus, serving as a key stakeholder for cross-functional questions.

What you bring

  • Ability to work with ambiguous or conflicting input from enterprise customers (via solutions, sales, or direct research), moving from framing through a scoped, buildable spec while owning the interaction model and visual execution, and separating stated requests from underlying needs.
  • Strong judgment about whether a workflow needs visible UI, including weighing observability, reversibility, and auditability before deciding AI can handle work invisibly.
  • Comfort building interactive, near-functional prototypes using code or AI-assisted tools to test directions before fully scoping.
  • Experience with prompt engineering to build and test conversational agents.
  • Working understanding of what AI can and cannot do reliably, including accuracy, latency, and context limits, sufficient to judge feasibility.
  • Use AI to prototype interactions quickly, generate and compare component variations, and identify where workflows can be delegated to AI instead of built as UI.
  • Experience extending and maintaining a component-based design system, with the ability to reuse existing patterns when appropriate and justify new ones when necessary.
  • Strong end-user focus, with attention to key decision makers and the value provided.
  • Comfort conducting discovery research and usability tests, using findings to inform design decisions.

Compensation

The total pay range for this role is USD 140,000 - 160,000 per yearly. Actual compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, depth of experience, certifications, specific work location, and internal equity.

Benefits

  • We are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.
  • Comprehensive benefits package designed to support your well-being, growth, and success.

Work environment & accommodations

  • Flexible work arrangements tailored to each role. Some positions are fully remote; others follow a hybrid model for employees near an office.
  • For remote and hybrid roles, collaboration is virtual using tools like Zoom and Slack.
  • Some work may involve prolonged computer use and stationary work, with the ability to interpret written and verbal communication effectively.
  • Degreed is dedicated to full inclusion and will provide reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities throughout the hiring process.

Fair hiring practices, verification, and privacy

  • In compliance with the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, Degreed considers qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
  • Degreed participates in the E-Verify employment verification program.
  • Global data privacy notice: if applying from specific regions, personal data may be processed under applicable privacy laws, including GDPR and CCPA. Review the Global Privacy Notice and related policies for details.
