Job Description
TikTok seeks a Product Designer specializing in Design Engineering AI workflows to guide how AI enhances design processes and tooling. This onsite role in San Jose, CA centers on elevating the design system, building internal AI tools, and driving cross‑platform adoption. You will work closely with engineering and design teams to turn ideas into scalable, AI‑driven experiences.
Responsibilities
- Lead the AI transformation of the design system and workflows by clarifying how AI agents, skills, and tools are used in design; convert the design system into AI‑readable assets and explore AI‑driven paths from inspiration to prototype to delivery to unlock new leverage for the team.
- Hands‑on development of internal AI tools using AI coding tools to independently create and refine agents, skills, and design tooling that accelerate AI adoption across the team.
- Architect a design system that scales for product needs and AI workflows, applying strong abstraction and innovation to maintain scalability and maintainability as requirements evolve.
- Elevate app design quality by applying craft and identifying opportunities across business lines to drive holistic improvements.
- Drive adoption of the design system and AI workflows by reframing complex business problems into design solutions, maintaining clear documentation, usage guidelines, best practices, and leading cross‑team training.
- Collaborate with engineers across platforms to translate design standards into high‑quality implementations and ensure cross‑platform consistency.
Requirements
- Open to candidates at any experience level; the key is deep hands‑on practice with AI coding tools and the ability to independently translate product and design ideas into high‑fidelity, interactive demos that validate experience and feasibility.
- Strong product sense and data‑driven judgment with a high aesthetic bar and meticulous attention to experience detail; able to curate and elevate AI‑generated output, turning the ordinary into the extraordinary.
- Ability to identify and define problems in complex business and user contexts, propose well‑considered solutions, and drive them to launch.
- Excellent communication and cross‑team collaboration; adaptable and effective in fast‑moving environments.
- Strong self‑drive and a learning loop; values reflection and turning experience into reusable methods and insights.
- Experience shipping social, creator, or content products at scale.
- Side projects involving social, AI‑driven, or generative experiences.
- Hands‑on coding background.

Compensation and Location
The base salary range for this position in San Jose, CA is USD 76,000 to USD 168,000 annually. Compensation may vary outside of this range based on qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. Base pay is part of the Total Package and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses or incentives and restricted stock units. Benefits may vary by employment type and location. About the Team
The TikTok UX team designs the product experience across the TikTok app, with ownership across Core App Product Infrastructure, Social, Creation, and Design Systems. The team applies professional design methods and practices to enhance user experience and improve efficiency across these areas.
