Job Description

Intuit is looking for a Principal Product Designer to define what AI-native product design looks like and to lead design strategy and execution for AI-powered experiences. The role is focused on accelerating delivery with AI while maintaining experiences that are intuitive, transparent, and genuinely useful.

Role Overview

Intuit builds the platform that powers financial tools used by millions of small and mid-sized businesses worldwide. Designing in this space requires clarity in complexity, systems thinking at scale, and a sustained commitment to craft.

At Intuit, AI is integrated into how teams design, prototype, and ship. The Principal Product Designer helps set a standard for interaction design and AI-native workflows, strengthening customer trust while reducing cognitive load across journeys.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the design vision for AI-powered experiences across the platform
  • Set and defend the quality bar for AI-generated and AI-assisted product experiences
  • Apply taste, craft, and judgment to ensure shipped work reflects design’s best contribution
  • Partner with Product Management, Engineering, and Design leadership to align experience strategy to customer and business outcomes
  • Work with AI to compress the distance from customer insight to testable prototypes
  • Design AI-powered features to be intuitive, transparent, and positioned to earn customer trust
  • Design experiences for a diverse range of users, emphasizing continuity and trust
  • Lead complex, cross-functional initiatives from concept through delivery
  • Generate and evaluate multiple directions simultaneously before committing to a path
  • Create prototypes and artifacts that communicate systems thinking, interaction depth, and experience quality
  • Ship experience improvements directly without engineering dependency when possible
  • Design across journeys, ensuring continuity across onboarding, daily workflows, and growth moments
  • Identify and resolve experience fragmentation and design debt across organizational boundaries
  • Ensure design systems and patterns travel with AI tools so quality does not degrade at scale
  • Balance innovation with consistency to strengthen customer trust and reduce cognitive load
  • Articulate complex design concepts through narratives, frameworks, and visual storytelling
  • Facilitate critiques and alignment sessions to build shared understanding across senior stakeholders
  • Influence decisions at the Director and VP level through clarity of thought and craft
  • Surface tradeoffs, experience risks, and long-term implications before they become issues
  • Mentor senior and staff designers to elevate platform thinking, AI fluency, and craft rigor
  • Help define what great looks like for designers in an AI-native world
  • Strengthen design culture through critiques, rituals, and principled decision-making

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience designing complex, large-scale product experiences
  • Demonstrated success shaping platform-level or ecosystem-level design strategy
  • Deep expertise in systems thinking, interaction design, and design systems
  • A track record of using AI tools to accelerate design workflows while maintaining craft and quality standards
  • Demonstrated ability to set and defend the quality bar for AI-powered product experiences
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools into a design workflow to improve quality, speed, or exploration
  • Proven ability to navigate ambiguity and define clarity at scale
  • Strong portfolio showing end-to-end thinking beyond feature-level design
  • Ability to synthesize qualitative insights and quantitative data into actionable design direction
  • Experience influencing cross-functional leaders and aligning multiple teams around a shared vision
  • Excitement to contribute to how design craft evolves, not only follow where it goes

Location

Mountain View, CA (onsite)

Compensation

Expected Base Pay Range (Mountain View): USD 239,000 - 323,000 per year

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package
  • Pay for performance rewards approach
