Job Description

Fizz Social Corp. seeks a Product Designer to own end-to-end design across all surfaces and markets for Fizz, a consumer Gen Z social app. In this sole designer role reporting to the Head of Product, you will shape experiences from concept through engineering handoff and ensure the product feels as delightful as it performs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end product design for the entire Fizz app across US and international markets from initial concept through handoff to engineering
  • From a PRD, explore multiple design directions, outline tradeoffs for each option, and partner with the PM to choose the best path
  • Design every layer of a feature, including interactions, transitions, empty states, error states, loading states, and edge cases
  • Anticipate dependencies and downstream effects across the product and resolve issues before engineering becomes involved
  • Present designs with clear context and rationale to engineering and leadership, enabling informed tradeoffs beyond visuals
  • Respond to feedback constructively, distill underlying problems, and return iterations that support better decision making
  • Build and maintain a scalable design system spanning features and markets, with RTL support for international use
  • Stay attuned to Gen Z culture in the US and globally, bringing that perspective to every design decision
  • Prototype with sufficient fidelity to eliminate ambiguity, leveraging lightweight production-ready prototypes or AI tools to simulate product behavior
  • Apply AI across the design workflow to generate high-fidelity mocks, interactive prototypes, and production-like testing environments
  • Integrate user research, data, and feedback loops into design iterations

Requirements

  • A portfolio that demonstrates refined taste for consumer mobile products that feel fun, vibrant, and native to how young people use their phones
  • Extensive experience designing for Gen Z with an instinct for what resonates and lands
  • A solid background in consumer social design, including feeds, reactions, sharing, notifications, or similar social mechanics at scale
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a keen eye for pixel-level accuracy in shipped work
  • A structured design process that explores multiple directions from briefs and clearly articulates tradeoffs
  • The ability to design end-to-end experiences, covering every state, flow, and edge case
  • Low ego and a focus on outcomes, able to separate attachment to a solution from the best possible result
  • Strong presentation skills, capable of guiding engineers and non-designers through design decisions
  • Comfort working as a solo designer, self-directed and capable without a large design organization
  • Proficiency with Figma and familiarity with AI-based design and prototyping tools
  • Deep understanding of mobile product design, platform conventions, system behaviors, performance constraints, and human interface guidelines

Technologies

  • Figma

What is Fizz

Fizz is a Gen Z focused social platform that began as America’s leading college social app and now connects Gen Z globally through shared experiences and identities. College Fizz communities feature a private, moderated feed of posts from verified students, offering an authentic window into student life. The Global Fizz product unites domestic and international Gen Z, emphasizing life beyond what is represented on mainstream apps like Instagram and TikTok. Fizz aims to bring social back to social media.

What we’ve done

Fizz launched at Stanford in July 2021, achieving rapid adoption with over 95% of undergraduates joining and significant daily usage. After raising a $25M Series B in July 2023, the app expanded to 700+ colleges, introduced advertising revenue, and began broader expansion beyond college communities. Most recently, Fizz reached the top of the App Store charts in Saudi Arabia.

Where we’re going

  • Expand across the full U.S. college market
  • Accelerate revenue growth through advertising
  • Rapidly extend beyond college students, both domestically and internationally

About the role

We are hiring a Product Designer to own end-to-end design across every surface, feature, and market. This high-ownership role lives at a consumer social app built for Gen Z, where the feel of a product is as important as its function. The right candidate has exceptional taste, a keen sense for what feels fun and culturally current to young users, and the rigor to see designs through every edge case. You will work directly with the Head of Product and collaborate closely with engineering to ship thoughtful, delightful experiences that embody Fizz.

Scope

Sole product designer responsible for all features, markets, and platforms.

What you’ll do

  • Own product design end-to-end across the entire Fizz app across US and international markets from concept to handoff
  • Explore multiple design directions from a PRD, articulate tradeoffs, and partner with the PM to select the best path
  • Design every layer of a feature including interactions, transitions, empty states, errors, loading states, and edge cases
  • Identify dependencies and downstream effects and resolve them before engineering problems arise
  • Present designs to engineering and leadership with context and rationale for tradeoffs
  • Respond to feedback with iterations that support informed decisions
  • Build and maintain a scalable design system with RTL support for international use
  • Stay connected to Gen Z culture in the US and globally and apply that lens to design decisions
  • Prototype with fidelity sufficient for engineering to implement, using lightweight prototypes or AI-assisted simulations
  • Leverage AI across the design workflow to produce high-fidelity mocks, interactive prototypes, and production-like tests
  • Integrate user research, data, and feedback into design iterations

What we’re looking for

  • A portfolio that demonstrates exceptional taste for consumer mobile products that feel fun and alive
  • Deep Gen Z design experience with an instinct for what lands
  • Strong consumer social background, with experience designing feeds, reactions, sharing, or notifications at scale
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Structured design process with multiple directions and clear tradeoffs
  • End-to-end design rigor for all states and flows
  • Low ego and collaborative decision-making
  • Strong presentation skills to convey tradeoffs to engineers and non-designers
  • Comfort as a solo designer and self-directed work style
  • Proficiency in Figma and familiarity with AI design tools
  • Solid understanding of mobile product design principles and translation to native code

Bonus points

  • Experience designing for international or culturally diverse markets, including RTL languages
  • Motion design or prototyping chops to convey interaction intent
  • Familiarity with native mobile development
  • Past success shipping products used and loved by people under 22

Not a fit if

  • Your portfolio is primarily enterprise, B2B, or utility-focused
  • You require a large design team or lengthy processes to do your best work
  • You hand off wireframes as complete design delivery
  • You lack curiosity about youth culture and Gen Z trends

How you’ll work

You will report to the Head of Product and work closely with the engineering team. As the sole designer, you will own a broad surface area and take full creative responsibility for shipped pixels. The pace is fast, so balancing exploration with execution and knowing when to deepen versus ship is essential.
