Job Description
Join Microsoft’s AI Experiences Design & Research team to help shape how people discover and engage with AI-powered consumer content and media across Microsoft products. In this Seattle, WA (onsite) Principal Product Designer role, you will design end-to-end experiences, collaborate across disciplines, and help raise design excellence through scalable systems and thoughtful interaction design.

What you’ll do
- Build product experiences grounded in a deep understanding of customer behaviors, motivations, and needs.
- Apply strong visual and interaction design skills to every surface, maintaining a high bar for craftsmanship.
- Design innovative, generative AI-driven features that improve how users find and engage with media and content.
- Help define what AI-native experiences look and feel like at scale.
- Partner with product managers, engineers, researchers, and content strategists to define, iterate, and ship features while aligning user needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
- Present concepts and decisions clearly to cross-functional partners and stakeholders, explaining rationale confidently.
- Develop design narratives using prototypes, flows, and presentations.
- Use and contribute to the design system to support consistency and scalability.
- Propose new patterns when needed and partner with engineers to implement designs with precision.
- Support a culture of creativity and innovation through mentorship and collaboration with other designers.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or a related field AND 5+ years product or service design experience.
- OR Master’s Degree in a related field AND 4+ years experience.
- OR equivalent experience (for example, demonstrated product or service design experience or using design thinking to solve problems).
- 5+ years experience in product or service design, ideally in consumer-facing products.
- Strong visual design skills, with interaction design grounded in UX fundamentals.
- Experience designing AI-powered or content/media experiences.
- Familiarity with generative AI and vibe coding is a plus.
- Experience with accessibility and inclusive design.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to advocate for design decisions to cross-functional partners.
- Experience designing and prototyping in Figma.

- The typical base pay range across the U.S. is USD 142,800 - 274,800 per year.
- In the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is USD 188,000 - 304,200 per year.
