Job Description

Microsoft is seeking a Senior Product Designer focused on monetization to shape AI-powered consumer experiences across Microsoft Copilot, Bing, MSN, gaming, and other consumer surfaces. The role rethinks how product design is executed in the AI era by developing intelligent, recursive design systems and orchestrating AI agent workflows.

What you will do

  • Own and ship high-quality AI-powered consumer experiences from early exploration through implementation, sustaining a strong standard for interaction quality, visual craft, accessibility, trust, and customer impact.
  • Design systems that produce design outcomes. Build AI-powered workflows that generate, critique, evaluate, refine, and operationalize design work at scale.
  • Build and orchestrate teams of AI agents with specialized roles, tools, context, memory, and responsibilities. Define how agents delegate work, share context, evaluate outputs, incorporate feedback, and escalate key decisions to people.
  • Create recursive and learning design systems that improve continuously using research, experimentation, product signals, evaluation, and human feedback.
  • Develop custom tools, prototypes, automations, and agentic workflows using code, models, APIs, structured data, and emerging AI technologies.
  • Encode design principles, customer knowledge, interaction patterns, brand standards, and quality criteria into reusable systems so strong design decisions scale.
  • Design intelligent product behaviors that provide people with appropriate understanding and control, including intent, delegation, system status, uncertainty, correction, recovery, and human oversight.
  • Define quality for AI-driven experiences and build evaluation mechanisms to assess performance, surface failure modes, and drive system improvements.
  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Research, Design, and business teams to connect customer needs to technical capabilities and influence underlying system requirements.
  • Identify repeatable human effort that can become scalable intelligence through automation, delegation, orchestration, or continuous learning.
  • Share tools, agents, patterns, and learnings so individual experimentation becomes reusable capability across the organization.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or a related field AND 4+ years of experience in product or service design.
  • OR Bachelor’s Degree in a related field AND 5+ years of experience in product or service design.
  • OR equivalent experience, including demonstrated product or service design work or applying design thinking to solve problems.
  • A portfolio or body of work showing exceptional product, interaction, and visual design judgment, including experience shipping high-quality digital products.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience building and orchestrating AI-powered workflows or agentic systems, including agents that use tools, context, delegation, evaluation, and feedback to complete complex work.
  • Evidence of personally building working AI-driven systems, tools, or experiences that materially changed how a problem is explored, designed, or solved. Conceptual familiarity alone is not sufficient.
  • Experience building multi-agent, recursive, or self-improving systems that evaluate outputs, incorporate feedback, and improve subsequent work.
  • Solid understanding of LLMs and generative AI, including prompting, context engineering, model and tool orchestration, structured outputs, retrieval, and evaluation.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or similar technologies, with the ability to independently create and modify functional prototypes and tools.
  • Experience working with APIs, structured data, models, tools, and external services to build end-to-end AI experiences.
  • Experience creating AI-powered design tooling, automation, or systems that expand the capabilities of other designers.
  • Solid understanding of evaluation for probabilistic systems, including defining quality criteria, identifying failure modes, and designing feedback and recovery mechanisms.
  • Exceptional interaction and visual design craft, paired with the ability to translate taste and quality into principles, constraints, prompts, evaluations, tools, and systems others can apply.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish direction in ambiguous technical spaces and turn emerging technology into understandable, useful, differentiated customer experiences.
  • Solid product judgment, connecting customer needs, technology, research, business context, and measurable outcomes.
  • Ability to explain complex AI systems clearly and build alignment across Product, Engineering, Research, Data Science, Design, and business leadership.
