GitHub's Brand Studio seeks a Creative Director to shape the global visual identity and brand systems that power campaigns, events, and executive storytelling. You will lead a world-class design team, translating strategy into clear creative direction and elevating brand clarity across all surfaces. This remote leadership role anchors how GitHub presents itself to developers, customers, and Hubbers around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the Brand Studio, offering clear creative guidance, strong people management, and prioritized focus across a broad set of marketing and brand initiatives.
  • Convert business signals, brand strategy, product narratives, and executive priorities into a compelling creative plan and actionable guidance for the team.
  • Collaborate with Brand Strategy & Narrative, Integrated Growth Marketing, Product Marketing, Events, Communications, Social, Web, Brand Experience, and executive stakeholders to ensure the GitHub brand appears with clarity, consistency, and creative excellence.
  • Steer the development of visual systems for campaigns, launches, events, executive storytelling, social moments, editorial content, presentations, and other high-impact brand experiences.
  • Maintain focus by filtering noise, clarifying priorities, aligning stakeholder expectations, and directing the studio toward high-value opportunities.
  • Champion the GitHub visual identity, keeping the brand distinct, modern, developer-authentic, and creatively ambitious.
  • Evolve scalable creative systems, templates, guidelines, and design practices that enable consistent brand expression across teams, channels, and regions.
  • Nurture a culture of trust, craft, collaboration, experimentation, and high standards within the team.
  • Coach and grow a talented group of creative specialists, boosting impact while preserving autonomy and energy within the studio.
  • Partner with external agencies, freelancers, and production partners when needed, ensuring external work meets GitHub’s creative bar and brand standards.
  • Work with the Brand Experience team to ensure the brand remains clear, cohesive, and compelling across web and product surfaces.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in product or brand design, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Educational pathways include a Doctorate with 6+ years of relevant experience, a Master’s with 8+ years, a Bachelor’s with 10+ years, or a combination that matches the listed criteria.
  • 5+ years designing brand systems, visual identity, and scalable design across marketing channels and organizational needs.
  • 5+ years of people management experience.

Overview

GitHub is seeking a Creative Director to steer the Brand Studio, the internal design leadership responsible for shaping how GitHub presents itself globally. The team creates the visual identity and creative systems for key moments—from global events and product launches to executive presentations, social content, blog storytelling, motion, illustration, and more. The work is highly visible, deeply cross-functional, and central to how developers, customers, and Hubbers experience the GitHub brand. The role requires guiding a high-caliber team without micromanaging, translating executive priorities and product narratives into clear creative direction, and fostering conditions that enable exceptional work.

Compensation

Base salary: USD 140,400.00 – 372,300.00 per year. This range reflects roles across the United States, with actual pay determined by location and experience. GitHub also offers benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock, and some roles may be eligible for sales incentives based on plan terms and role.
