Job Description

Art Director role at Wella Company focusing on OPI, a hybrid position in Calabasas, CA, reporting to the Head of Global Creative with one direct report, shaping storytelling and brand identity across design, video, and copy for OPI, global packaging, and global creative concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Head of Creative to advance brand identity, visual language, and storytelling aligned with brand and business priorities.
  • Direct the creation of integrated, concept-driven work across the full consumer journey from campaign concept to channel execution.
  • Translate business and marketing strategies into insight-informed creative that elevates brand expression and drives engagement.
  • Provide clear creative direction across projects to meet objectives, deadlines, and high standards of craft.
  • Show excellence in typography and graphic design with a keen eye for detail, composition, and visual storytelling.
  • Lead and art direct photo and video shoots for campaigns and social, ensuring a cohesive vision and channel-specific tailoring to maximize engagement and conversions.
  • Present and articulate concepts clearly to align stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Collaborate across Marketing, Digital, Product, Sales Strategy, Shopper Marketing, and external partners to deliver cohesive, customer-focused work.
  • Manage agencies and external partners to maintain alignment with brand vision and high execution quality.
  • Mentor and support the Creative team, promoting collaboration, growth, and creative excellence.
  • Identify and champion new ideas, trends, and approaches that advance the brand.
  • Continuously refine processes and workflows to improve efficiency, scalability, and creative impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art and Design or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in creative development, digital design, and branding with a focus on fashion, beauty, or luxury.
  • Strong understanding of design principles, visual systems, and production processes across multiple mediums.
  • Proven track record of leading projects from concept through final production.
  • Ability to lead and inspire teams while remaining hands-on in the work.
  • Solid awareness of digital, e-commerce, and in-store environments with knowledge of packaging, fashion/beauty, and lifestyle trends.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, XD) and modern tools such as Figma and Sketch.
  • Working knowledge of emerging AI tools with openness to exploring and integrating new technologies into the creative process.
  • Extensive network and familiarity with creative and production talent, including photographers, stylists, glam teams, and other partners.
  • Strong knowledge of current and emerging trends across branding, creative, photography, design, and culture.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
