Upgrade is hiring a Senior Product Designer, Growth to design and deliver product experiences that support customer acquisition, onboarding, eligibility, conversion, retention, and AI initiatives. Reporting to the VP of Design, this role partners across Product, Marketing, Engineering, and Legal to take ideas from concept to shippable experiences for customer-facing products.
Role Focus
You will lead product design across Boost Money, BoostCash, Upgrade’s mobile banking products, and new AI initiatives. The work emphasizes clarity for customers and measurable improvements to activation, conversion, and retention, supporting a base of funded and active customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Own product design for Boost Money™, BoostCash™, Upgrade’s mobile banking products, and new AI initiatives.
- Collaborate with Product, Marketing, Engineering, and Legal to develop actionable flows, prototypes, and polished experiences that ship to customers.
- Ship, test, and iterate on design work aimed at improving activation, conversion, and retention.
- Ensure eligibility, fees, and repayment are understandable from the first time customers encounter them.
- Manage multiple projects across product lines and keep stakeholders aligned.
- Contribute to and maintain the Upgrade Design System to support consistency, quality, and efficiency across Upgrade’s platform.
- Mentor junior designers in Figma best practices, AI and automation, and help strengthen the design team’s process and culture.
Requirements
- 6+ years of Product Design experience with a focus on consumer mobile, including end-to-end ownership from strategy through production in partnership with Product, Marketing, and Engineering.
- Strong performance in an agile environment with many stakeholders, with a bias for action, collaboration, and sound judgment.
- Self-directed, detail-oriented, and organized, with comfort managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Expert-level Figma skills, including experience mentoring junior designers on best practices.
- Experience in fintech or another regulated consumer setting, with the ability to design comfortably when legal, compliance, and privacy reviews shape the customer experience.
- A strong portfolio featuring shipped case studies demonstrating impact as an individual contributor.
- Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain rationale, influence stakeholders, and bring a principled design perspective to customer experience discussions.
- AI is part of your workflow, demonstrated by at least one portfolio project where AI and automation changed how you designed, organized, or collaborated.
- Eagerness to work in person in the San Francisco office at least two days per week.

Working Location and Schedule
This role is based in San Francisco, CA (hybrid). You will be in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays and for company events. Upgrade will not convert this role to remote in the future.

Compensation
The compensation range for this position in San Francisco, CA is USD $140,000 - $160,000 annually plus equity and benefits. Base pay within the range depends on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
