Job Description

American Mathematical Society is seeking a User Interface Designer to develop, maintain, and support the AMS website and digital products through every stage of product development. This hybrid role in Providence, Rhode Island centers on building user interfaces that are visually polished and highly usable, with close collaboration across the Web Working Group and software developers.

What you’ll contribute

  • Design wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and rapid prototypes.
  • Create functional, intuitive, and innovative web interfaces.
  • Maintain and improve responsive web content.
  • Assist in analyzing AMS website usage metrics using Google Analytics, then propose recommendations when needed.
  • Work within established web style guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain website accessibility standards.
  • Coordinate with content providers to help ensure web style guidelines and accessibility standards are followed.
  • Write clear, concise documentation for new web design processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Proven UI design experience with a strong portfolio.
  • Expertise in HTML and CSS coding.
  • Advanced AI tools user.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Create Suite.
  • Proficiency in Bootstrap 3 and forward.
  • Proficiency in WordPress.
  • Working knowledge of content management systems.
  • Basic understanding of JavaScript.
  • Willingness and ability to learn accessibility standards.
  • Typography experience is a plus.
  • Graphic and multimedia design experience is a plus.

Tools you’ll use

HTML, CSS, AI tools, Google Analytics, Adobe Create Suite, Bootstrap 3 and forward, WordPress, content management systems, JavaScript.

Team collaboration

  • Works primarily within the IT – Software Engineering department.
  • Member of the Web Working Group and the Web Strategy Group.
  • Supports staff with website-related help desk requests.

Travel and work requirements
