Job Description

State Street's Charles River Development unit seeks a senior UI/UX designer to lead the design of enterprise-grade, data-intensive experiences within the investment management platform. This hands-on product design role emphasizes framing ambiguous problems, shaping solutions, and delivering detailed interaction designs while aligning with the Alpha Design System.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end UX lifecycle for key product features and initiatives, guiding discovery, workflow analysis, information architecture, interaction design, prototyping, validation, and supporting implementation.
  • Turn intricate business requirements and unclear problems into well-defined, user-centered designs.
  • Create enterprise-grade workflows that handle data-heavy, multi-step, and role-based scenarios, including dashboards, tables, configuration screens, drill-down sequences, and multi-workspace tasking.
  • Produce both low- and high-fidelity prototypes, UX flows, interaction specifications, and developer-ready design artifacts that convey behavior, states, and edge cases.
  • Steer cross-functional design reviews from concept through delivery, aligning with product and engineering stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with engineers during implementation to clarify requirements, refine interactions, and preserve design quality under real-world constraints.
  • Leverage and contribute to the Alpha Design System and shared UX standards to enhance consistency and reuse across products.
  • Lead or guide discovery activities such as user interviews, workflow analyses, usability testing, and evaluation of existing experiences.

Requirements

  • Eight or more years in UX, product design, or interaction design, with substantial experience in enterprise or B2B software.
  • Experience designing products for the financial industry or other complex, domain-heavy environments.
  • Experience with data-intensive applications, analytical tools, dashboards, and data visualization.
  • Strong systems-thinking ability to design across connected workflows, products, and user roles.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, cross-functional product teams using iterative delivery practices.
  • Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks and implementation constraints, such as React-based applications, preferred.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to explain detailed interaction models to product and engineering stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Figma for design, prototyping, and building and applying design systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives without losing focus on priorities, dependencies, and design quality.
  • Ability to function as a true partner with product and engineering leaders in shaping problem definition and solution direction.
  • A portfolio showing strong user-centered design sensibility.
  • A portfolio demonstrating thoughtful approaches to defining and improving complex workflows.
  • A portfolio illustrating scalable interaction patterns for enterprise products.
  • A portfolio clearly communicating detailed behaviors, states, and functional flows.
  • A portfolio with high-quality prototypes and specifications suitable for engineering implementation.
