Job Description

Eli Lilly’s LillyDirect design team is seeking a Staff Product Designer to shape end-to-end digital experiences across web, mobile, and other formats. This role emphasizes visual UI excellence, design systems, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver production-ready assets that support patients, caregivers, and researchers alike.

Overview

Location: Indianapolis, IN (onsite). Salary: USD 126,000 - 202,400 per year. Minimum experience: 5 years. Education: Bachelor's degree in Design.

Responsibilities

  • Elevate design standards across a broad set of outputs, from digital products to patient-facing experiences.
  • Apply meticulous attention to typography, motion, copy, composition, and art direction across projects.
  • Work within component-based design systems, knowing when to follow established patterns and when to push constraints.
  • Present design rationale clearly, incorporate feedback constructively, and build trust with collaborators at all levels.
  • Demonstrate accountability, flexibility, and initiative, prioritizing work to deliver results efficiently.
  • Maintain a learning mindset, stay current on industry trends and tools, and contribute to a culture of critique and collaboration at Design@Lilly.
  • Raise the bar for visual quality, interaction detail, and overall polish across LillyDirect surfaces.
  • Contribute to and evolve the design system at both component and pattern levels, preserving clarity and usability.
  • Partner with product and engineering to shape solutions, not just deliver screens.
  • Set the craft standard for the team with sophisticated work that others reference and build upon.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment on design direction within a product area.
  • Shape team culture through critique leadership, mentorship, and active participation in Design@Lilly practices.
  • Define how products look and feel, owning visual quality across typography, color, composition, and motion.
  • Deliver polished, production-ready assets across web, mobile, and other digital formats.
  • Operate as a hybrid product designer, combining strong UI craft with solid UX judgment across flows and end-to-end experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Design (Digital Design, Interaction Design, Visual Communication, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field) or a high school diploma/GED with 5+ years of equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in product, UX, or visual design for digital products and experiences.
  • An exceptional portfolio spanning multiple projects and mediums, with a focus on interface or screen-based experiences.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States; Lilly does not anticipate sponsorship for employment visa status for this position.

Benefits

  • Company bonus
  • 401(k) plan
  • Pension
  • Vacation benefits
  • Medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage
  • Flexible benefits (healthcare and/or dependent care flexible spending accounts)
  • Life insurance and death benefits
  • Time off and leave of absence benefits
  • Well-being benefits (employee assistance program, fitness benefits, and employee clubs and activities)

About the Role

As a Product Designer at Lilly, you will influence the full design delivery lifecycle—from interpreting research and defining the problem to crafting interactions, perfecting visuals, and partnering with engineering and product to ship. The work carries real responsibility, serving patients, caregivers, and scientists who rely on clear, accessible digital tools. While this role leans toward visual and UI design, it expects a hybrid designer who can elevate interface quality, systems thinking, and overall product polish while competently addressing flows, structure, and interaction design.

Additional Preferences

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, coupled with curiosity and a passion for innovation in digital health.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to translate complex ideas into actionable plans for a diverse group of collaborators.
  • Collaborative mindset and the ability to build strong working relationships while navigating conflicts constructively.
  • Strong visual craft with solid command of typography, grids, composition, and color, while maintaining capability across core UX responsibilities including flows, interaction design, and problem framing.
