Carnegie Mellon University is hiring a Senior UI/UX Developer in Pittsburgh, PA (onsite) to lead enterprise UX and front-end delivery.

Design intuitive user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity prototypes, and design systems for enterprise web applications.
Convert UI/UX work into production-ready, performant front-end code using modern JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS/SASS with relevant web frameworks.
Own accessibility audits, remediations, and testing to ensure ADA compliance and alignment with WCAG 2.1 AA/AAA.
Build and run automated UI tests (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright) and integration tests for cross-browser compatibility and component reliability.
Assess UX/UI needs by estimating timelines, evaluating browser compatibility, and ensuring designs integrate cleanly with backend services (including RESTful APIs).
Set division-wide UI/UX design patterns, mentor junior developers on accessibility and front-end best practices, and maintain clear design documentation.
Perform other duties as assigned.

5–7 years of professional experience in UI/UX design and modern front-end web development.
Strong JavaScript skills, including experience with modern build tools, package managers, and front-end framework ecosystems.
Proven web accessibility experience, including ARIA roles, keyboard navigation, contrast compliance, and screen reader support (e.g., NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver).
Experience with automated web testing tools (e.g., Selenium, Cypress) and unit/component testing frameworks.
Knowledge of how front-end security requirements impact development (e.g., preventing XSS, safe state management, secure form handling).
Track record leading UI/UX initiatives, collaborating with backend engineers and project leads, and documenting design systems and components.
Successful background check.

Familiarity with Java application stacks (Spring Framework, Tomcat) and/or RESTful API integrations for backend collaboration.
Basic to solid understanding of SQL/Oracle or data pipelines to support data-dense dashboards and admin interfaces.
Recent exposure to AI-assisted tools for design, prototyping, or front-end code generation/testing.
Comfort working in Linux environments, using Git, and deploying containerized applications.
Experience designing accessible digital services in Higher Education or public-sector contexts.

Advocacy for diverse user groups, including users with disabilities, to build inclusive digital experiences.
Clear communication of design decisions to developers, product managers, and non-technical university stakeholders.
Strong attention to visual consistency, user friction points, micro-interactions, and edge-case behaviors.
Motivation to keep up with evolving accessibility standards, modern front-end frameworks, and emerging design technologies.
