Senior Product Designer, Growth
Job Description
beehiiv is seeking a Senior Product Designer (Growth) based in the United States (onsite). In this role, you will own design across the onboarding-to-retention journey, focusing on growth outcomes through experiment-driven iteration and close collaboration with Product, Growth, Engineering, and fellow designers.
What You’ll Do
- Own end-to-end design across onboarding, activation, upsells, expansion & churn, with a direct focus on conversion and retention.
- Partner with Product and Growth to convert user research, support signals, and product data into clear design hypotheses, then design and ship experiments to validate them.
- Redesign high-friction funnel moments, including the in-app downgrade flow, trial-to-paid conversion, and first-time activation, with emphasis on reducing churn and improving conversion.
- Collaborate with senior product designers to maintain alignment with beehiiv’s core design language while applying a growth-oriented test-and-learn approach within your scope.
- Work directly with engineering to scope design work accurately and ship iteratively rather than waiting for perfection.
- Share your thinking, rationale, and trade-offs with the product and leadership team, incorporating feedback quickly.
Key Focus Areas
This position centers on surfaces tied most closely to conversion and retention, including onboarding, activation, upsells, expansion, and churn. You will be expected to translate growth challenges into testable design points and iterate based on quantitative outcomes.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a product designer, ideally with meaningful time working on growth, activation, lifecycle, or monetization surfaces (not only core product or feature design).
- Experience designing for experimentation, including comfort scoping A/B tests, phased rollouts, and iterating quickly based on quantitative results rather than solely qualitative feedback.
- Ability to take a vague, high-stakes problem such as reducing churn, clarifying a downgrade flow, or improving activation and turn it into a crisp, testable design perspective.
- Excellent communication, listening, and writing skills, with the ability to explain design rationale and trade-offs to cross-functional stakeholders, including leadership.
- Ability to read and analyze data, using it to form hypotheses and guide design decisions.
- Prior experience in the newsletter/media/publishing/SaaS industry is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and an ability to work independently with limited direction when needed.
- Genuine excitement about scaling a nascent platform.
- An ownership mindset.
Benefits
- Competitive salary: USD 150,000 - 170,000 per year
- Stock Options
- Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
- 401(k) employer match
- Unlimited PTO (mandatory 10 days per year minimum)
- Annual in-person team offsite
- Unlimited book budget
- Monthly Wellness Days (every third Friday of the month)
Role Fit Notes
- Fast-growing start-up environment with the opportunity to help define a new growth design practice from scratch.
- High impact and high visibility, shaping the first impressions and ongoing experiences of beehiiv users.
- Strong fit for candidates who enjoy end-to-end ownership from problem framing through shipped experiments.
- May not be a fit if you need a traditional 9-to-5 structure.
- May not be a fit if you are not comfortable managing multiple priorities and stakeholders.
- May not be a fit if rapid iteration, frequent context switching, and high expectations for both speed and quality are difficult for you.
- May not be a fit if you prefer straightforward organizational dynamics.
