Senior Product Designer
Job Description
Chewy is seeking a Senior Product Designer to join the Private Brands team, focused on hardgoods. This onsite role in Minneapolis centers on crafting original product concepts and collections, translating customer insights into innovative design solutions that differentiate the brand and accelerate category growth. You will collaborate across disciplines to shape product strategy, brand expression, and cohesive assortments that resonate with pet parents.
Responsibilities
- Spot opportunities for new products, extensions, and assortment expansions that drive category growth and meet evolving customer needs.
- Lead the development of original product concepts, collections, and assortment solutions that reinforce brand differentiation.
- Convey ideas through sketching, rendering, storytelling, material exploration, and iterative design to guide development.
- Turn customer insights, trends, competitive analysis, performance data, and strategic priorities into differentiated product solutions.
- Apply structured problem solving and customer centered research to uncover unmet needs, gaps, and future opportunities.
- Collaborate with Technical Design to balance aesthetics, functionality, quality, manufacturability, and customer experience.
- Translate brand principles into meaningful product experiences and visual identities that strengthen trust and emotional connection.
- Create cohesive ecosystems, collections, and assortments that reinforce brand positioning and deliver a consistent experience across categories.
- Work with Brand Strategy to bring brands to life through product design and innovation.
- Ensure product collections and seasonal storytelling contribute to a recognizable, differentiated brand experience across touchpoints.
- Develop compelling product concepts and visual storytelling that align stakeholders around future opportunities.
- Identify emerging needs, market trends, and innovation opportunities to shape future category direction.
- Build strong customer and business cases that support new concepts, assortment expansion, and investments in innovation.
- Influence category growth by delivering differentiated design solutions that enhance customer preference and performance.
- Serve as a design subject matter expert across product categories, innovation initiatives, and assortment development.
- Guide product and assortment decisions through customer centered design thinking, storytelling, and creative problem solving.
- Partner with Technical Design, Brand Strategy, Category Management, Sourcing, Marketing, and enterprise teams to enable successful product execution.
- Present design recommendations and opportunities to stakeholders and leadership teams.
- Support team growth through mentorship and continual improvement of design practices.
- Foster relationships with vendor partners to elevate creative execution and speed up product innovation.
- Provide clear creative direction and design guidance to ensure alignment with brand expectations and customer needs.
- Leverage vendor expertise, materials knowledge, and manufacturing capabilities to strengthen concepts and uncover new opportunities.
- Help establish and maintain design standards, creative principles, and visual consistency across categories.
- Stay updated on consumer trends, materials, competitive products, and emerging design influences.
- Champion creative problem solving and continuous improvement while creating space for innovation and creativity.
- Use customer insights, business understanding, and design expertise to drive measurable category, customer, and brand outcomes.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in Product Design, Industrial Design, Consumer Product Design, or related field.
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Product Design, or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, XD, or similar tools.
- Track record of developing original product concepts from ideation through execution within consumer products, retail, or private brands.
- Strong visual communication skills, including sketching, rendering, concept development, and visual storytelling.
- Ability to translate customer insights, trends, and business objectives into differentiated product solutions.
- Experience influencing cross functional stakeholders and presenting recommendations to drive alignment.
- Strong problem solving, collaboration, and communication skills with a customer centered mindset.

What You’ll Get
- Base salary range of $137,500 to $221,500 per year.
- Offer may be influenced by experience, education, and location; eligible for 401(k) matching and equity grants, with possible annual bonus for eligible roles.
