Product Designer

Concourse is building a public-sector operating platform, and this role focuses on the design layer that makes every deployment feel coherent, usable, and unmistakably Concourse. You will define and own the foundational design language that Forward-Deployed PMs rely on to assemble intuitive, Concourse-standard experiences across many government workflows.

As a Product Designer, you will go beyond designing screens by shipping a production design system as front-end code, while tackling complex statutory and operational UX problems such as multi-approver reviews, conditional fee schedules, statutory deadlines, and legacy data models that were never intended for public use.

What you’ll do

• Define Concourse’s design language, including conventions that products inherit such as casing and form patterns, error and empty states, motion, and authentication flows
• Create flexible components that FDPMs can configure to model many workflows, while staying constrained enough for non-engineers to assemble a product without breaking standard behavior
• Own the design library used by every Concourse product, covering tokens and primitives, components, motion, templates, and documentation
• Ship the system as production front-end code built with AI agents alongside engineers, rather than delivering Figma files for others to interpret
• Solve complex government workflow UX including multi-approver reviews, conditional fee schedules, statutory deadlines, and legacy data models

What you bring

• A portfolio showing what you have shipped end-to-end under real client pressure and real constraints
• Hands-on experience with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Factory, etc.) used as a core part of daily workflow, with a strong sense of what AI can and will do
• High-agency, high-velocity approach with an exceptional work ethic
• 5+ years of product design experience, including early-stage startup experience
• Experience building or substantially shaping a design system that held up across more than one product, including designing for use cases you have not personally seen
• Comfort with extreme ambiguity, where projects may start from a statute, a screenshot of a 20-year-old system, and a partner who cannot fully articulate needs
• Pixel-level standards and systems thinking
• Comfort with code as a deliverable (Figma may be used as a thinking tool, but not as the output)
• Strong relationship-building skills with non-technical stakeholders, including turning workflows from partners such as a county clerk or school IT director into an interface
• US citizenship or work authorization
• In-person availability in Flatiron, NYC, 5 days/week
