Principal Brand Design Lead I
Job Description
Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) is building CMT.AI with a mission centered on road safety and mobility intelligence. In this onsite role in Cambridge, MA, you will own the evolution of the brand identity and lead the creation of a complete Figma design system that connects to generative and agentic AI production workflows.
You will set the standard for how CMT looks and communicates across product UI, marketing, sales, and stakeholder-facing materials, while guiding adoption of the system throughout the organization. From brand reviews to mentoring and system-level governance, this position combines creative leadership with practical design-system execution.
What you’ll own
- Own CMT’s brand identity and drive its evolution into CMT.AI across all touchpoints, including product UI, website, sales and marketing materials, events, social, and customer, partner, and investor communications.
- Build and maintain brand standards as a complete Figma system, including variables and tokens for color, type, spacing, and motion.
- Maintain component libraries for logos, iconography, data visualization, charts, UI patterns, and illustration.
- Create template systems for decks, one-sheets, web modules, email, social, and events.
- Document standards and publish guidelines so product, marketing, sales, and people teams can self-serve.
- Drive adoption across the company by replacing legacy templates and ad hoc assets, and train non-designers to use the libraries correctly.
Generative and agentic AI in the workflow
- Connect the Figma system to generative and agentic AI tools to automate production, including pitch-deck generation that assembles approved components and copy into on-brand layouts from a prompt or outline.
- Use the system to produce campaign and social variants across formats and regions from a single master.
- Generate trade-show and event collateral from reusable environmental and print templates.
- Build case studies, product sheets, and partner co-brands from component libraries, with AI-drafted copy routed through brand review.
- Extend iconography and illustration in the house style from a seed set.
- Select the tools and define guardrails for quality, legal safety, and brand integrity, including Figma AI, plugins and APIs, Adobe Firefly, image and video generation, and LLM-based copy and layout assistants.
Brand and design leadership
- Lead flagship creative across brand campaigns, the website’s visual system, keynote and conference presence, launch creative for DriveWell Atlas and the DriveWell product line, and corporate materials.
- Design and refine sales and marketing materials, including pitch decks, product sheets, brochures, print and online advertisements, OOH, and trade show collateral, plus graphics for the website and social platforms.
- Collaborate with product, marketing, sales, and recruiting to understand requirements and deliver designs aligned with CMT’s brand.
- Run brand reviews and act as the final authority on brand consistency.
- Study category and visual trends and bring proposals for how the identity should grow.
- Mentor designers and contractors to raise the craft bar.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience and/or certification in graphic design, creative arts, or a related field.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in brand and visual design, including at least one full brand system build or refresh rolled out across an organization.
- Deep Figma fluency: variables, component architecture, auto layout, libraries, plugins, and the API, with the ability to build a design system from scratch and keep it clean under heavy use.
- Hands-on experience using generative AI in a production design workflow, with a clear point of view on where it belongs and how to keep output on-brand.
- Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign (After Effects is a plus).
- Excellent typography, layout, and systems-thinking skills to distill complex technical ideas into simple designs.
- High attention to detail with a results-driven attitude, plus demonstrated ability to drive adoption with stakeholders outside design.
- Time management and multitasking skills to meet tight deadlines, with a team-player mindset.
- Ability to evangelize CMT’s mission and brand, work independently with minimal supervision, and exercise independent judgment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for direct responses to internal or external customer and vendor queries.
