Digital Web Designer - AI Trainer

DataAnnotation is hiring an experienced Digital Web Designer - AI Trainer to help shape realistic visual design briefs and assess how frontier AI design tools perform against professional UI/UX standards. This is a contract role based in Evanston, IL with remote work, designed for flexibility and independent delivery from your own setup.

What you’ll do

You will create challenging, realistic design briefs using your own professional expertise, then run those briefs through frontier AI design tools to evaluate the results. A core part of the role is judging output quality with the same rigor you would apply to a colleague’s work, with specific attention to UI/UX and visual craft.

• Design realistic briefs for UI/UX, web, and visual deliverables.
• Evaluate AI-generated interfaces and visual outputs against a professional standard.
• Compare two model versions using identical prompts and assets, then decide which performed better and why.
• Critique model-generated interfaces, mockups, layouts, slides, infographics, illustrations, and motion.
• Document concrete failures with evidence across alignment and spacing, content overflow and cutoff, typography, visual hierarchy, SVG and illustration quality, ignored assets, and off-brief interpretation.
• Contribute across software and interactive work, office and presentation design, technical illustration, graphic design, and new media.

What you bring

• English fluency at a native or bilingual level.
• Background in UI/UX, web design, product design, or graphic design.
• Strong command of visual hierarchy, layout, typography, interaction design, and user flow.
• Ability to articulate why a design fails, not only that it does.
• Comfort working with AI design tools, or the ability to learn them quickly.
• A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, and may be current, in progress, or completed.

Flexible contract work

Pick the projects you want and when you want to work. You’ll work on your own computer, from home, with hourly compensation. The expected rate is $75–$125 USD per hour, and some projects offer bonus rates.
