Visual Design Manager
Job Description
Lead visual design direction for client and internal engagements, connecting craft decisions to brand strategy and measurable business outcomes while applying AI to accelerate design workflows.
Responsibilities
- Direct visual design on engagements end-to-end (internal or client), owning design quality, aesthetic cohesion, and timeline adherence from concept through delivery.
- Translate abstract briefs, brand strategy, and audience insights into clear, compelling visual languages.
- Set and defend a high visual craft standard across brand identities, design systems, motion, typography, illustration, and digital experiences.
- Operate as both a visionary and hands-on leader: define direction while staying close to execution and producing high-quality work alongside the team.
- Use AI tools to speed concepting, iteration, and production, while modeling how AI supports creative thinking rather than replacing it.
- Act as a leading creative voice in client discussions by sharing visual perspective and converting design rationale into strategic narratives.
- Document how AI changes visual design workflows and quantify impact on delivery quality and team performance to evolve practice methods.
- Contribute to proposals, create case studies, and develop thought leadership that showcases visual design capabilities and learnings.
- Identify and shape new creative opportunities with existing clients; recognize when brand, design system, or experience challenges enable deeper engagement, partnering with account leads to build a point of view.
- Manage, support, and mentor team members in day-to-day work to strengthen visual craft, creative confidence, and independence.
- Stay an engaged member of the Visual Design craft by sharing methods, creative references, and outcomes, and contributing to discipline evolution.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in Visual Design across a range of industries, brand types, platforms, and visual contexts.
- 4+ years leading visual design engagements end-to-end, including creative concepting, visual strategy, and production-ready delivery.
- 4+ years directing creation of brand identities, design systems, typography, motion, illustration, and digital UI with a consistent visual voice.
- 4+ years producing and directing high-fidelity visual work with exceptional attention to detail, including pixel-perfect deliverables and developer-ready specifications.
- 3+ years directly managing or coaching visual designers, with demonstrated ability to develop contributors into stronger, more independent practitioners.
- 3+ years working in agile and cross-functional environments with product designers, product managers, engineers, and strategists to deliver cohesive experiences.
- 3+ years delivering high-caliber visual design work that has shipped at scale, resolved complex product or brand challenges, and driven measurable impact across customer experiences and business goals.
- 3+ years experience grounded in visual design decisions with deep understanding of UX.
- 3+ years experience building and contributing to scalable design systems to ensure visual consistency across products, platforms, and channels.
- 3+ years experience embedding AI tools and workflows into visual design practices, from concept generation and mood-boarding to rapid iteration and team-level AI-enabled ways of working.
- 3+ years recent hands-on experience in design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Claude Design, plus relevant motion, illustration, or AI design tools.
- 3+ years facilitation skills and creative presence to present visual strategy and design rationale to senior client stakeholders and guide decisions under pressure.
