Job Description

Stryker is seeking a Staff level User Interface and Experience Designer (UI/UX) to join its Mako Robotics team and shape software interface experiences for robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery. The initial focus is Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA), with the opportunity to influence both current and next-generation Mako applications through design specifications and cross-functional collaboration.

This Fort Lauderdale, FL (hybrid) role centers on designing production-ready UI work that helps translate clinical workflows, user needs, and product requirements into clear, accessible software interactions. You will work alongside engineering, product development, and design partners to support implementation and consistency across shared platforms and design systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop intuitive, visually consistent software interfaces for Mako robotic-assisted surgery applications, starting with THA.
  • Create high-fidelity interface designs, screen layouts, interactive prototypes, and reusable UI components using Figma and established design systems.
  • Translate complex clinical workflows, product requirements, and user needs into functional, clear, accessible software experiences.
  • Apply visual and interaction design principles, including typography, color, layout, navigation, messaging, component states, and user feedback.
  • Produce detailed, production-ready UI specifications that communicate design intent to software development teams.
  • Create and manage design assets, component libraries, naming conventions, documentation, and version-controlled design deliverables.
  • Support next-generation Mako applications through workflow analysis, concept exploration, prototyping, and iterative design.
  • Collaborate with UX researchers, product owners, and cross-functional teams to incorporate user feedback, clinical insights, and usability considerations.
  • Participate in design reviews, usability evaluations, and voice-of-customer activities to improve overall user experience.
  • Balance user needs, technical feasibility, design consistency, and product requirements throughout development.
  • Partner closely with software engineers, scrum teams, product owners, systems engineers, and designers to support successful implementation.
  • Collaborate with design teams across Mako’s hip, knee, and shoulder applications to maintain consistency within shared software platforms and design systems.
  • Independently manage assigned design activities, proactively resolve challenges, and drive deliverables from concept through implementation.
  • Communicate design decisions, technical specifications, and recommendations clearly to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes, documentation standards, tools, and team practices.
  • Support applicable medical device design controls, usability, and quality requirements throughout product development.
