Job Description

Lead the end-to-end UX UI design of the District of Columbia hiring system within PeopleSoft, coordinating with developers, PeopleSoft experts, and IT staff, and reporting to the Innovation Team, onsite in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

  • Assist departments in elevating digital service delivery and deploying new solutions.
  • Drive a major transformation across multiple stakeholders, constituencies, and agencies.
  • Apply critical thinking to challenge assumptions and foster creative solutions to obstacles.
  • Ground the redesign in existing research and gather new data as needed to guide the hiring system overhaul.
  • Lead cross-department workshops to map business processes and align them with user research and city tech capabilities.
  • Conduct usability testing to surface pain points for applicants and hiring staff.
  • Produce site maps, flow diagrams, storyboards, and wireframes illustrating interaction flows and information architecture to address pain points and improve the hiring experience.
  • Support the PeopleSoft subject matter expert in prioritizing and implementing changes guided by existing user research.
  • Leverage UX expertise to craft a seamless, efficient hiring process for both front-end and back-end users.
  • Apply the UI style guide to design visuals for all PeopleSoft pages and assist with testing, refinement, and rollout.
  • Drive UX and UI updates to the hiring site in collaboration with the Department of Human Resources.
  • Establish and monitor impact targets, track performance, and adjust course as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and/or relevant practical experience in UX, human-centered design, collaborative solution creation, visual communication, and implementation skills.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in a relevant field.
  • Deep expertise in human-centered design, UX, and visual design, including design research, data synthesis, co-creation, prototyping, testing, iteration, and implementation.
  • Proven ability to manage complex digital design and implementation projects within a government environment.
  • Proven ability to conduct user research and translate data into actionable insights.
  • Ability to present large amounts of information in clear, digestible formats.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively, leveraging teammates' work and abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with teammates, city staff, and diverse community stakeholders.
  • Experience facilitating workshops and meetings with senior-level stakeholders.
  • Ability to summarize and clearly explain complex situations in writing and in speech.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving local government services.
  • High resilience and patience when engaging stakeholders with varying levels of interest in digital service redesign.
  • Solid project management background with the ability to set targets and deliver measurable results on time and within budget.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with HTML.
  • Proficiency in Figma, Miro, Adobe Sketch (or equivalent), and MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook.
