Job Description

Support Tyler Junior College’s Visual Communications and front-desk operations through clerical, reception, and lab/workroom coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Provide front desk and phone coverage; greet callers and visitors in a courteous, polite, and professional manner
  • Answer basic questions and/or route callers or visitors to the correct point of contact or resource
  • Take accurate messages as needed
  • Respond to work-related emails; assist with replying to department email accounts if assigned by the supervisor
  • Coordinate the reception/desk area and maintain orderliness in related spaces
  • Open and distribute mail to the appropriate employees
  • Support outgoing mail tasks such as folding letters and envelopes and preparing labels
  • Perform hand deliveries to other campus offices
  • Assist with basic office administration and other tasks as needed, including maintaining spreadsheets, preparing reports, coordinating or gathering data, and filing, copying, or scanning documents
  • Keep file rooms and supply rooms organized
  • Monitor three Mac labs and the workroom
  • Evaluate studio equipment after student use
  • Complete close-down procedures in all Visual Communications rooms and labs

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Attend Visual Communications classes for at least one semester with good attendance
  • Must be registered for undergraduate classes and maintain active enrollment status to work in these positions
  • May qualify for Federal Work Study, determined by the Office of Financial Aid
  • Work up to 18 hours per week
  • Cannot work in multiple hourly positions
  • Work week runs Monday to Sunday
  • Knowledge and skill to operate a personal computer
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work independently, respect confidentiality, and maintain professionalism with students, faculty, staff, and visitors
  • Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of the role
  • Must demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including staff and students with disabilities
