Job Description

The Senior UI/UX consultant will contribute to UX research, interface design, and design-system development on a 12-month plus contract for Information Technology Management Services. This role is based in Fairfax, Virginia, with remote work options within the state, focusing on UX research, UI design, wireframes, and design-system initiatives for ITMS.

Location and Contract Details

Location: Virginia (remote). This contract position is centered in Fairfax, Virginia, with option for remote work within the state.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct foundational UX activities, including user testing, card sorting, tree stumps, personas, usability studies and research; design and deploy surveys for direct customer feedback; analyze usage data and traffic patterns; and run A/B tests to gauge user responses.
  • Undertake foundational UI design tasks, translating wireframes into prototypes and design mockups that apply a user-centered approach, adhere to style guides, implement thoughtful interaction states, and produce development-ready assets.
  • Create wireframes and clickable prototypes using a range of design and prototyping tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Visio, Axure, Omnigraffle, and others.
  • Make strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core and new functions and features, with rapid testing and iteration of designs.
  • Lead the full visual design process from concept through final hand-off to engineering, including defining and maintaining visual style guides and developing supporting assets.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 to 5 years of experience with a proven track record in UX strategy that drives UI project implementation.
  • Experience developing low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototypes (Photoshop, Adobe XD, HTML).
  • Front-end experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap).
  • Expertise in responsive design.
  • Strong visual design experience for web and native apps.
  • Some PHP experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with company style guides and design systems.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present solutions clearly to stakeholders.
  • Experience authoring component and style-guide documentation.
  • Proficiency in wireframe design.
