Job Description

Kaizen builds the application layer that replaces legacy systems with modern software, using Taproot and the Canopy design system as the foundation for reusable modules. This role helps ensure the platform scales as the company grows, so teams can ship shared product experiences faster, with fewer surprises for users.

In this New York, NY onsite role (in office four days a week), you will own the design system and contribute to shared Taproot platform surfaces end to end. You will partner closely with Platform engineers to build components, docs, and guidelines that teams can adopt without breaking what has already shipped.

What you’ll own

  • Canopy design system end to end including components, tokens, documentation, and guidelines, with spacing, type, states, density, and accessible behavior right at the source.
  • Every Taproot module and shared product surface, from scoping through ship.
  • Platform adoption decisions by partnering with project teams across delivery engagements to determine what becomes a shared pattern versus a one-off.
  • Platform design roadmap and processes for requesting, adopting, and contributing to the system.
  • Rollouts across live products, implementing system changes without breaking existing live surfaces.
  • Hands-on collaboration with Platform engineers on feature build outs, plus docs and guidelines, with opportunities to ship components yourself.
  • Enable delivery teams to move faster as the system grows, helping ensure users get services that work the first time.

What you bring

  • Deep UI craft at the component level, with care for spacing, type, states, density, and accessible behavior aligned to WCAG and Section 508.
  • Experience evolving a design system across a growing suite of products, including rolling out changes safely without breaking live surfaces.
  • Judgment to abstract selectively, distinguishing one-off requests from true patterns and applying discipline to what gets generalized.
  • Proven adoption leadership, treating the design system as a product, enabling teams to build on it, and demonstrating how it improves delivery speed.
  • Comfort owning a roadmap and working directly with engineers and delivery teams who do not report to you.

Benefits designed for real life

  • 100% coverage across medical (through Oxford/United Gold and Platinum PPO plans), dental (through Guardian PPO), and vision (through Beam), with 100% coverage for dependents.
  • $100,000 fully paid life insurance, plus FSA and Dependent Care FSA.
  • One Medical membership on us with same-day primary care, 24/7 virtual visits, and offices across the city.
  • Carrot fertility and family-building support.
  • 401(k) through Guideline with a 2% company match.
  • Parental leave: 16 weeks fully paid for birthing parents and 10 weeks fully paid for non-birthing parents.
  • Unlimited PTO with a two-week minimum, plus full closure for all federal holidays and a company winter break during the week of Christmas.
  • Company offsites throughout the year.
  • NYC home office stipend up to $750 one-time (desk setup), with $500 for remote employees.
  • Commuter benefit: $50/month company contribution.
  • Office meal support: expensed lunch while in the office.
  • Late-office support: dinner and Uber rides home expensed if you work in the office past 7pm.
  • Equipment: company-provided laptop of your choice.
  • Gym: fully covered membership at Grindhouse for NYC employees (47 W 17th St and in Williamsburg), and $100/month reimbursement for non-NYC employees.
  • Additional stipends: $100/month utility stipend, $250/quarter home cleaning, $500/year professional development, $250/year recreation, and $300/quarter pet care.

Compensation Range: $170,000 - $210,000 per year.
