Responsibilities

  • Lead design direction across multiple projects and own project planning to ensure timely delivery
  • Influence feasibility assessments for project goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with team leads to define feature vision, then visualize and communicate it
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for a key feature or technology and share UX best practices for that area
  • Research and propose solutions for problems that span multiple groups or disciplines
  • Provide design feedback in your areas of expertise to teammates
  • Lead conversations with partners and potential clients regarding user experience design
  • Mentor less experienced Product Designers (Product Designer 1 & 2)
  • Contribute to advanced design research for new products or markets by identifying opportunities, creating effective protocols, and translating results into solid solutions
  • Provide input to product design plans and concept documents
  • Show understanding of business needs as they relate to design
  • Independently determine general approaches and specific solutions to technical problems
  • Stay current with design trends, tools, and technologies and advocate for user centered design principles and best practices
  • Communicate status of work clearly and maintain visibility with supervision
  • Exemplify Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy and proactively contribute to Garmin’s image and culture

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interactive Design, Human Factors, Visual Design, or an equivalent curriculum that teaches user centered design principles, and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or a minimum of 9 years of equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Excellent academics (GPA 3.0 or higher) with the ability to apply learned knowledge effectively
  • Proficient in UX software tools such as Figma and Sketch, as well as interactive prototyping tools
  • Proven track record leading design direction for multiple projects and ensuring effective project planning leads to timely completion of goals
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
