Job Description
Senior Product Designer leading Instagram wearables with a mobile focus, onsite in New York, NY.
Responsibilities
- Translate broad wearable concepts for Instagram into tangible, valuable experiences for billions of users, shaping product strategy and driving cross‑org innovation.
- Define and steer the long‑term design direction for Instagram across Meta's wearables portfolio, including Ray‑Ban Meta glasses, Quest, and future devices, crafting end‑to‑end flows that scale with appropriate prototyping tools.
- Own end‑to‑end wearables mobile design and support display experiences for AR glasses, creating new experiences and layouts that evolve visual systems for emerging form factors.
- Lead design prioritization and execution for the wearables initiative, sustaining momentum to meet accelerated timelines while navigating cross‑organizational dependencies.
- Communicate strategic decisions about the future of Instagram on wearables, presenting work to VPs and Directors, aligning on strategy, and securing leadership buy‑in.
- Influence product direction across multiple organizations and partners, balancing competing priorities with diplomacy.
- Act as a key cross‑functional IC lead for the wearables design initiative, stepping into workstream operations as needed to unblock progress.
- Provide and solicit feedback across the product team to raise wearables design quality, uphold Instagram's craft standards, and mentor partner teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Human‑Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field, plus 8+ years of relevant experience.
- 8+ years building and shipping applications at company scale, leading end‑to‑end experiences in large, ambiguous domains.
- Experience in interaction design with a track record of defining how an experience should behave to meet user needs, and demonstrated use of prototyping tools to show how interactions scale.
- Strong visual design skills, including typography, desktop/mobile UI, color, layout, iconography, and an understanding of how aesthetics affect function.
- Strategic product thinking with success in setting goals, identifying global opportunities, and making decisions based on user and business impact.
- Experience presenting work to executives, clearly communicating goals and concepts.
- Examples of leadership beyond product that strengthened teams and improved the work environment.
- Experience implementing responsible, ethical AI practices such as risk assessment, bias mitigation, and quality checks.
- Ongoing AI skill development, including prompt engineering and agent orchestration, with a track record of staying current with emerging AI technologies.
- Ability to integrate AI tools to optimize workflows and drive measurable impact.
- Experience collaborating across the company and with external initiatives to drive cross‑functional alignment.
- Previous people management or design leadership experience across teams shipping premium consumer hardware.
- Experience designing for small screens and constrained form factors or wearable devices such as AR glasses, smartwatches, or companion apps.
