Product Designer, Discovery
Job Description
Senior Product Designer for the Buyer Discovery pod at Whatnot, focused on ads and notifications within buyer-facing Discovery experiences across mobile and web, based in New York, NY with remote work options.
Responsibilities
- Design thoughtful, intuitive user experiences across buyer discovery surfaces on mobile and web
- Contribute to the Messaging Platform that brings buyers back at the right moment with relevant, engaging content
- Help shape Ad Experiences within discovery surfaces in ways that balance buyer relevance, seller value, and ecosystem health
- Create flows, mocks, prototypes, and polished UI that clearly communicate design intent
- Partner closely with product, engineering, data, and design peers to explore ideas, test hypotheses, and improve the user experience
- Participate in critiques and feedback loops, and iterate quickly based on learnings
- Sweat the details while keeping sight of the broader user and business goals
Requirements
- Strong visual and interaction design fundamentals
- A portfolio that shows craft, clarity of thinking, and care for the end-to-end user experience
- Curiosity about how design can support both user needs and business outcomes
- Excitement to work on consumer-facing product experiences with high visibility and lots of iteration
- Comfort collaborating with product managers, engineers, and other designers
- A willingness to learn quickly, ask good questions, and incorporate feedback
- Strong communication skills in both verbal and written form
- High attention to detail and a desire to keep refining until the work feels right
Compensation and Location
Location: New York, NY (remote). Salary: USD 153,000 - 235,000 per year. Minimum experience: 5 years.

Role
Discovery sits at the center of Whatnot, guiding how buyers discover shows, sellers, products, and categories, and enabling sellers to reach buyers more effectively. The program includes notifications and ad experiences that extend discovery beyond the feed, with emphasis on relevance, trust, and engagement. This role focuses on Buyer Discovery with an emphasis on Ads and Notifications, collaborating across product, engineering, data, and design to deliver fast-moving consumer product work with high impact.
