Product Designer, Design Systems

Join Anthropic’s Design Systems team to help define and evolve the UI language behind Claude experiences. In this role, you will design system foundations and core interactions, then partner with product teams to ship improvements across products, with the option to prototype and land changes using code.

What you’ll do

• Design and iterate the system from foundations including color, type, spacing, icons, tokens, and theming to reusable components such as menus, dialogs, sidebars, and the chat composer.
• Create an expressive layer that works as a system, including motion, illustration, and iconography that are consistent with brand while remaining reusable across the product.
• Make the system understandable to both Claude and people by providing guidance, metadata, and evals that help verify whether Claude uses it correctly.
• Partner with product teams to help designers and engineers apply the system well, and ensure recurring gaps get fed back into ongoing system improvements.
• Prototype in code and ship alongside engineers by landing changes in the design-system package, using Claude Code as part of your practice.

What you bring

• Strong visual and interaction craft.
• Experience building or working on a design system.
• Experience with design tokens, theming, and accessibility standards.
• Fluency with whichever tool moves an idea fastest, from Figma to code.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience building products at the highest level of craft
• Experience shipping voice or other beyond-the-screen work, with native mobile instincts
• Experience designing an icon set, illustration style, or motion system used across products
• Experience defining evals, lint rules, or automated checks for UI quality
• 8+ years of product design experience

• Location: San Francisco, CA (hybrid)
• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
• Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience
• Minimum years of experience: Will correlate with internal job level requirements for the position
• Hybrid policy: Expect all staff to be in one of the offices at least 25% of the time, though some roles may require more
